Check Out Emma Dixon-Desmond’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Dixon-Desmond.

Emma, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in more towns than there are years in school, & I’ve realized something: that has contributed to my multifaceted career involving creativity, connection, vulnerability, and matching energy
in a significant way! in 2013, after graduation, i began cutting hair professionally at a barbershop that not only
was the foundation for my knowledge in client retention and customer service training, but was also the platform i discovered my love for teaching within!

I made a huge professional move in 2018 where I was offered an employment opportunity as the head educator and master barber at a company based out of new york, with locations in california. i lived in San Francisco from 2018-2022.

After moving to NC in January of2022 I partnered with Fuertes Hair Studio and began rooting here in Charlotte.

2023 I earned my 200 hr yoga teacher training cert, 2024 I became attuned in level 2 reiki (energy healing; hygiene, and upkeep). this is when i started infusing my spiritual gifts into my hair offerings. this allowed me to take yet another step in my journey of evolution into the experience-creator and safe-space holder the world needs- whether under the guise of hairdresser or spiritual consultant.

yoga classes and spiritual offerings with me are scheduled outside of my hair studio in a creative place called Empowered Artistry Collective in Concord, nc.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
simply put, no. being a human being regardless of the tools and resources I’ve grown to maintain in my arsenal is not smooth at all! an obstacle i face is imposter syndrome. knowing my creative approach and visceral, lived jn style is the appeal and i dont have to second guess myself.

simply put, as a child i wasn’t encourage to self express so as an adult im constantly practicing being myself and authentic.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
putting as much energy into my spiritual gifts as continuing my education in Hair is what sets me apart from other hairdressers. hair will always be a very saturated industry so continuing to lean into my individualism is what makes me most proud.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
going to the beach with my grandparents and dad. swimming in the ocean during rainstorms
