Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Creager.
Valerie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My work is shaped by connection and driven by a desire to create meaningful impact.
While my professional path began in education, it quickly became clear that my strengths were creativity, strategy, and a deep understanding of human behavior. What followed was a natural evolution into a career defined by artistry and entrepreneurship.
Over the past two decades, I’ve built Val Stone Photography, a portrait and branding photography studio centered on storytelling and creating art that is deeply meaningful. What began as a creative pursuit has grown into a relationship-driven business, where I continue to serve clients across the Triangle with an emphasis on connection, trust, and beautiful images.
That foundation naturally led to the creation of Brandthology, where I partner in community with purpose-driven entrepreneurs who wish to build intentional, aligned brands. My approach to branding extends well beyond aesthetics. It’s grounded in trust, integrity, and clarity. Brandthology is about helping business owners articulate who they are, show up with confidence, and attract the clients they are uniquely positioned to serve. I also believe that building a successful business requires more than strategy alone; it calls for balance, community, and the support to grow in a way that is both sustainable and aligned.
Alongside these ventures, my family owns Neighbor Boy Farm, where I support my husband in his role as the farmer and builder. Our farm represents a different kind of legacy for me, grounded in land stewardship, community, and a connection to something tangible and enduring. As a mom, it also reflects the life we are intentionally creating for our family, rooted in values that extend beyond business. It serves as a steady reminder that while building and evolving, staying connected to what matters most is essential.
Everything I’ve created exists at the intersection of strategy, creativity, and human connection, which informs how I approach business and relationships. This allows me to create in a way that is intentional, and enduring.
At my core, I am an entrepreneur and builder who believes that connection and relationships should be our guiding light. While I’m proud of what has been created, I am always reflecting, evolving, and continuing to grow with intention.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, and I don’t think the most meaningful journeys ever are.
One of the greatest challenges has been learning how to hold multiple roles at once: building and sustaining businesses while raising children, while caring for my mother during her illness before she passed, while supporting my husband through a significant injury, while honoring myself. Each season required a different version of me, and often, they overlapped in ways that demanded both resilience and grace.
Balance has been the most consistent ongoing pursuit. Not in the sense of perfection, but in learning how to be present where I’m needed most, while still honoring my own growth and well-being. There have been moments of stretching, rebuilding, and reimagining, both personally and professionally.
From a business perspective, I’ve also had to learn how to navigate uncertainty, economic shifts, industry changes, technology, and the natural evolution that comes with long-term entrepreneurship. That has meant repositioning, rebranding, and continually refining how I show up, ensuring that what I build is not only aligned, but also sustainable.
Ultimately, those challenges have shaped the way I lead and create today. They’ve deepened my perspective, strengthened my adaptability, and reinforced my belief that success isn’t defined by ease, but by the ability to grow, recalibrate, and continue forward with intention.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At the heart of my work is Val Stone Photography, a boutique portrait and branding studio known for offering a refined, full-service experience that is both elevated and effortless. From wardrobe guidance to the session itself, every detail is thoughtfully supported so my clients can show up and have a stress free experience. That sense of ease is where genuine connection and beautiful imagery naturally unfold.
What sets both me and my work apart is the balance of artistry, intention, connection and experience. I approach each session with a deep understanding of people, allowing me to create images that feel natural, timeless, and personal. While my primary focus is photography, my work through Brandthology also informs how I guide clients in presenting themselves with clarity and confidence.
Above all, I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built, and am deeply grateful for the clients who return year after year, trusting me to document their lives and create artwork that becomes part of their family or business legacy.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
To work together, simply reach out to me through one of my businesses. I’m also always open to thoughtful collaborations that align with my values, particularly those rooted in community, creativity, and connection. Supporting my work can be as simple as sharing it and referring others.
