Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Dunn.
Hi Chris, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My brother Steve Dunn and myself opened our pawn shop in January 2024. We had some experience in the business from when our uncle owned a pawn shop in the same building when we were younger. Eventually, we got an opportunity to open in the same building, so we did. We started posting social media content, skits specifically, during our slow times. The content started to catch some traction and we now have over 140,000 followers/subscribers across all social media. We have built a business with a loyal following of customers, and are continuing to grow with customer experience being at the center of what we do every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Gaining customer trust is a huge hurdle to jump through when opening a pawn shop. We’ve worked very hard to keep the customer experience at the forefront of what we do. We’ve learned that being transparent and fully open about what we do is the best way to earn and keep customer trust. The pawn shop business has a stigma around it for being untrustworthy, so we work every day to make sure our community knows that they can depend on us to be honest and fair.
We’ve been impressed with Mill Road Pawn, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a pawn shop in Rockingham NC that specializes in Gold, Silver, Firearms, Electronics, and much more. People don’t see our firearms on social media typically, so they may not know that we deal in those as well. Many people know us from our social media presence on Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, etc. I believe what sets us apart is how we handle customer interactions. Focusing on educating the customer on things they may not know. Being fully open and transparent when making deals for items that have value. Giving customers every option available, and even recommending other avenues to sell their items, even if it may mean they don’t do business with us. Transparency and Honesty is key.
