Rising Stars: Meet Sherrissa Becton of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrissa Becton.

Sherrissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in North Carolina, I’ve always been a true Southern girl with a heart for hospitality, creativity, and bringing people together. My passion for design and event planning began at an early age through my love for beautiful celebrations, meaningful gatherings, and creating memorable experiences for family and friends. Those moments inspired me to pursue a career centered around creating joy and unforgettable memories for others.

As I grew older, I realized I not only loved beautiful details and décor, but I also had a natural gift for organization, planning, and creating meaningful experiences for others. I pursued my education with that same passion, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a Master’s degree in Psychology, and an MBA. I later became a Certified Wedding and Event Planner through the U.S. Career Institute to further strengthen my knowledge and expertise in the industry.

n 2017, I officially launched Destiny Events NC and turned my lifelong passion into a business dedicated to creating unforgettable celebrations with sophistication, elegance, and style. Over the years, Destiny Events has grown into a trusted wedding planning company known for personalized service, attention to detail, and creating stress-free experiences for couples and families.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road has not always been smooth, but every challenge has helped shape me into the business owner and planner I am today. In the beginning, my biggest struggle was fear. I questioned whether the business would truly be successful and if couples would trust me with one of the most important days of their lives. Starting a business requires a huge leap of faith, and there were moments of uncertainty, self-doubt, and wondering if I was good enough to compete in the industry.

Balancing entrepreneurship while working full-time and caring for my family also came with challenges. There were long nights, sacrifices, and moments where I had to push through exhaustion and continue believing in the vision God placed in my heart. Building a business from the ground up takes patience, consistency, and resilience.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Destiny Events NC, I am a full-service wedding and event planner specializing in creating timeless, elegant, and highly personalized celebrations. I work closely with couples to bring their vision to life while ensuring the entire planning process is organized, seamless, and stress-free. From full-service planning to design and event management, my focus is always on delivering an experience that feels intentional, meaningful, and beautifully executed.

I specialize in intimate, classic Southern-inspired weddings with a strong emphasis on detail, design, and guest experience. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a larger celebration, I am known for creating events that feel warm, refined, and deeply personal. My approach blends structure with creativity, ensuring every detail is thoughtfully planned while still allowing each couple’s unique love story to shine through.

What I am most proud of is the trust my couples place in me. Being chosen to be part of such an important milestone in their lives is something I never take lightly. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a couple fully present on their wedding day, confident that everything behind the scenes is taken care of, and truly able to enjoy every moment.

What sets me apart is my heart for service combined with my background in business, psychology, and certified wedding planning. I don’t just focus on aesthetics and logistics, I also focus on people, emotions, and the overall experience. I understand the pressure couples feel during planning, so I prioritize communication, calm guidance, and a structured process that helps reduce stress and build confidence throughout the journey.

At the core of my work, I love creating cherished memories with sophistication, elegance, and style while making every client feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Yes, my biggest advice for anyone just starting out is to trust your vision, even when it feels uncertain. When I first began Destiny Events NC, I spent a lot of time questioning myself, wondering if I was ready, if people would believe in me, and if I would truly succeed. What I’ve learned is that growth doesn’t come from having everything figured out; it comes from taking that first step in faith and being willing to learn along the way.

I wish I had known earlier that perfection is not the goal, progress is. In the beginning, I wanted everything to be flawless before I put myself out there, but the truth is, you grow the most through experience, not preparation. Every event, every client, and every challenge taught me something valuable that shaped my business.

I would also tell my earlier self to stop underestimating the importance of confidence and consistency. Even when things felt slow or uncertain, staying consistent and showing up made all the difference. Your brand grows as you continue to serve, learn, and refine your craft.

Most importantly, I would remind anyone starting out that fear will always try to speak louder than your purpose. You have to choose to move forward anyway. Looking back, I see that every step, even the uncomfortable ones was preparing me for the business I have today. And I am grateful I didn’t give up when it felt hard.
