Rising Stars: Meet Shameka Lewis of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shameka Lewis.

Hi Shameka, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Safe with God was created from a place of healing, faith, and personal transformation. What started as a journey through some of life’s most challenging moments became a reminder that even in uncertainty, I was still Safe with God.

During seasons where I was navigating grief, healing, growth, and rebuilding, I found myself having to fully learn how to trust God again. That journey required me to unlearn old behaviors, breaking away from things that no longer aligned with where God was leading me, and truly surrender control. My relationship with God became my place of peace, safety, and stability, and Safe with God was born from that experience.

I wanted to create something that was more than apparel, something that could encourage people, remind them to trust God through every season, and let them know they are not walking alone.

What began as a vision placed on my heart slowly turned into a brand rooted in faith, softness, healing, and becoming. Every detail, from the messaging to the colors and designs, was intentionally created to reflect peace, comfort, and the beauty of trusting God while evolving into who He created you to be.

Today, Safe with God continues to grow into a community and lifestyle centered around faith, healing, and encouragement. I’m still growing, learning, and becoming myself, and I believe that authenticity is what makes the journey so meaningful. My hope is that whenever someone wears or connects with the brand, they feel seen, encouraged, and reminded that no matter what season they’re in, they are Safe with God.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely has not been a completely smooth road, but every challenge along the way has shaped both me and the vision behind Safe with God.

One of the biggest struggles was navigating grief and major life transitions while still trying to hold onto faith, purpose, and hope. There were moments when I experienced uncertainty about what the future would look like, including job loss and financial challenges, all while trying to continue building something meaningful from the ground up.

There were also seasons where I had to slow down emotionally and spiritually to truly heal, unlearn old survival patterns, and reconnect with God in a deeper way. Building a brand rooted in peace, faith, and healing required me to first confront those things within myself.

At times, it was difficult to balance the emotional weight of personal challenges while still showing up consistently for the vision. But looking back, I believe those moments strengthened my faith, deepened my trust in God, and reminded me why Safe with God was created in the first place.

The journey has taught me that purpose can still exist in uncertain seasons, and sometimes the most meaningful things are built while you are healing, growing, and learning to trust God again.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the founder and creative behind Safe with God, a faith-based lifestyle and apparel brand rooted in healing, peace, softness, and personal transformation. Through apparel, intentional messaging, and creative storytelling, my goal is to create pieces that not only look good, but also encourage people emotionally and spiritually.

I specialize in creating products and experiences that feel comforting, meaningful, and connected to faith in a modern and authentic way. Every design, color choice, and detail is intentional and meant to reflect peace, trust, and the beauty of becoming who God created you to be.

What I believe sets Safe with God apart is the heart and lived experience behind it. This is not just a clothing brand or trend for me. It was created from real-life experiences, healing, grief, rebuilding, and learning how to trust God again. I know what it feels like to feel unseen, broken, lost, emotionally exhausted, or uncertain about life, because I have walked through those seasons myself. Because of that, my goal is to create more than just products. I want Safe with God to feel like a safe space, a reminder that people are seen, loved, supported, and held even in difficult seasons. I want people to feel peace when they connect with the brand and know they are not alone in what they are navigating.

What I’m most proud of is having the courage to continue building even during uncertain seasons. Launching Safe with God required me to step outside of fear, trust the vision God placed on my heart, and show up authentically while still healing and growing myself. Seeing people connect with the message and feel encouraged through something I created is one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I enjoy most about Raleigh is the sense of growth, creativity, and community. There are so many people pursuing purpose-driven work, building businesses, creating, and finding ways to support one another. I also appreciate the balance the city offers. There are spaces that feel peaceful and grounded while still allowing room for growth, opportunity, and connection.

If I had to say one thing I would love to see more of, it would be additional spaces, events, and resources specifically geared toward emerging entrepreneurs and creatives. As someone building a brand, I’ve realized how valuable supportive communities and networking opportunities can be, especially for people who are still growing and learning along the way. I think creating more intentional spaces for collaboration, education, and encouragement would be really impactful for the city’s creative and entrepreneurial community.
