Rising Stars: Meet Richelle Smallwood of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richelle Smallwood.

Hi Richelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey has been shaped by both personal growth and a deep passion for helping others heal and discover their potential. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Providential Care: Center for Mental Wellness, PLLC, where I provide mental health services and create programs designed to help individuals build self-esteem, improve emotional wellness, and reconnect with their authentic selves.

Over the years, I have worked in various areas of behavioral health, supporting individuals facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and self-worth struggles. Through this work, I noticed that many people were searching not only for symptom relief but also for a deeper understanding of who they are and how their life experiences have shaped them.

This realization inspired me to develop the Lost & Found: Journey to Self-Discovery program and brand. What began as a vision to help people reconnect with themselves has grown into a platform that combines mental wellness, education, empowerment, and personal growth. Through therapy, workshops, speaking engagements, digital content, and community events, I strive to create spaces where people can explore their stories, challenge limiting beliefs, and embrace healthier versions of themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs and mental health professionals, I’ve faced challenges both personally and professionally along the way. Building a business while working demanding jobs required a great deal of sacrifice, time management, and perseverance. There were moments when I questioned whether I had the capacity to balance my career, my business, my family responsibilities, and my personal goals all at the same time.

One of the biggest challenges has been learning to trust the process when growth doesn’t happen as quickly as you envision. There have been setbacks, disappointments, and moments of uncertainty, but each experience taught me something valuable about resilience, patience, and purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Providential Care: Center for Mental Wellness, PLLC. My work focuses on helping individuals improve their mental wellness, strengthen their self-esteem, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. Through therapy, psychoeducation, workshops, speaking engagements, and digital content, I strive to make mental health concepts practical, relatable, and accessible to the communities I serve.

I specialize in helping individuals navigate issues related to self-worth, anxiety, life transitions, emotional wellness, and personal growth. Much of my work centers around helping people identify the beliefs, experiences, and patterns that influence how they see themselves and interact with the world. This passion led me to create the Lost & Found: Journey to Self-Discovery program, which encourages individuals to explore their stories, challenge limiting beliefs, and reconnect with their authentic selves.

What I am most proud of is creating a platform that extends beyond traditional therapy. Through community events, educational initiatives such as the Summer of Schemas series, and self-esteem-focused programming, I have been able to reach people in ways that are engaging, empowering, and transformative. Seeing individuals gain insight, confidence, and hope is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

What sets me apart is my ability to blend clinical expertise with authenticity, creativity, and real-world application. I believe mental health education should not only be informative but also engaging and easy to understand. Whether I am working with clients, speaking to an audience, or creating content, my goal is to help people see that self-discovery and healing are attainable. I don’t simply focus on helping people manage symptoms—I help them uncover who they are, understand how they got there, and develop the tools to become who they want to be.
