Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaytlyn Williams.
Hi Kaytlyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Years ago, I realized I had skin sensitivity to fragrance oils and colorants. I was using products that were labeled “natural” and still having issues, and then I realized that even many products sold under the “natural” label still contained ingredients that my skin could not tolerate. I needed gentle, scent-free, colorant free products so I decided to learn to make my own. Sweet Carolina Soap came to life in 2015 and I’ve been making bar soaps ever since!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since my last interview, life got a little crazy. We actually experienced a house fire in the spring of 2025 that required the rebuild of nearly our entire home. Thankfully, my soap workspace was in an area that was minimally affected, although I did still lose product and some ingredients due to smoke damage. Being displaced for 8 months was very difficult personally of course, but also for my business. I was unable to make any products during this time and also had to temporarily close by online store. I’m still working hard to get my online presence back and keeping my products stocked well at the local business where I sell.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I try to have fun with soap-making! Sometimes an idea will come to me and I feel like I have to make it come to life as soon as possible (which is not always the best plan!). I love to experiment with different additives or water replacements in my soap, such as beer, fruit or vegetable juices, and tea infusions. Creating fun swirls in the soap and on the tops can add a lot of dimensions to an otherwise flat bar. My goal is to make natural soap for sensitive skin that isn’t boring!
