Hidden Gems: Meet Sabrina Little of Sabrina Little PR

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Little.

Hi Sabrina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey has been anything but traditional, and honestly, that’s what makes it so meaningful.

I began my career in human resources, recruiting, and workforce development, spending more than 15 years helping organizations identify talent, build teams, and create opportunities for people to thrive. Throughout my career, whether I was working in healthcare, higher education, technology, or government, I found myself drawn to one thing consistently: helping people and organizations tell their stories, build relationships, and create impact.

Along the way, I experienced my own share of personal and professional challenges. There were seasons where I had to reinvent myself, learn new skills, and step outside of my comfort zone. Those experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of never allowing your current circumstances to define your future.

As my career evolved, I moved into community engagement, economic development, and strategic consulting. I had the opportunity to work on initiatives involving affordable housing, digital equity, workforce development, public policy, and community revitalization. Through those experiences, I discovered that effective communication is often the bridge between great ideas and meaningful results.

That realization ultimately led me to rebuild Sabrina Little PR.

What started as a passion for helping individuals and organizations gain visibility has grown into a strategic communications and consulting firm that serves nonprofits, community organizations, entrepreneurs, developers, municipalities, and mission-driven leaders. Today, Sabrina Little PR is more than a public relations agency, we help organizations develop strategy, strengthen their brands, build partnerships, navigate change, and tell stories that inspire action.

One of the things I’m most proud of is that my work sits at the intersection of communications, community impact, and economic opportunity. Whether I’m helping a nonprofit amplify its mission, supporting a housing developer with community engagement, coordinating digital inclusion efforts across Durham, or helping an entrepreneur build their brand, my goal remains the same: connect people, resources, and opportunities in a way that creates lasting and meaningful impact.

Today, I continue to grow Sabrina Little PR while also serving in leadership roles throughout the community. I am passionate about affordable housing, community development, digital inclusion, and helping organizations communicate their value more effectively. More importantly, I’m committed to opening doors for others and showing people that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself, pursue your purpose, and build something meaningful.

My story is really one of resilience, reinvention, and relationships—and I’m still writing the next chapter.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges has been transitioning from being an employee and consultant to fully embracing my role as a business owner and CEO. When you’re building a business, you’re responsible for everything—from business development and client service to marketing, finances, operations, and long-term strategy. Learning how to work on the business instead of always working in the business has been an ongoing growth journey.

Another challenge has been educating potential clients about the true value of public relations and strategic communications. Many organizations view PR as simply getting media coverage, but effective PR is much broader. It includes reputation management, stakeholder engagement, strategic partnerships, crisis communications, and creating a communications strategy that supports business goals. Sometimes the challenge is helping clients understand that communications is an investment, not an expense.

Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve experienced periods of uncertainty. There have been times when projects ended, revenue fluctuated, or opportunities didn’t materialize the way I hoped. Those moments tested my faith, resilience, and ability to pivot. What I’ve learned is that setbacks are often setups for something greater if you’re willing to keep moving forward.

I firmly believe that no one achieves success alone, and I have been blessed to have incredible mentors, supporters, and advocates along my journey.

First, I would like to recognize Carla Byrd, who was my original PR mentor. Carla gave me the playbook to public relations and consistently created opportunities for me to learn, grow, and build my business. Her guidance helped lay the foundation for Sabrina Little PR.

I am also grateful for Morgan Mansa, who has been a tremendous supporter as I’ve expanded my work in affordable housing, community development, and local government initiatives.

My good friend Rae Boone, Founder of BeEvolved HR, has been one of my biggest cheerleaders and advocates, always encouraging me to keep pushing forward and recognizing my value.

And my best friend, DeAnna Green, has been instrumental in helping me think strategically about my business, challenge myself to grow, and ensure Sabrina Little PR is built for long-term success.

Each of these women has played a unique role in my journey, and I am deeply grateful for their support, encouragement, and belief in me.
