Today we’d like to introduce you to Arlon Robinson.
Hi Arlon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey began decades ago when I was in elementary school. I use to draw pictures of Dragonball z characters and continue to draw anything, my eyes and hands could imagine. In middle school I started my graffiti stage. Coming up with characters and making them stylish. I sold artwork on paper . Fast forward to college – is where my business life mixes with art. I graduated from the Art institute of Charlotte ; earning my degree in Graphic design and most of my hand sketches became digital. I learned how to compose murals, magazine covers, business cards, digital paintings, etc. And still til this day I continue to push heights further. I’ve created my own characters and partnered with many companies and I’ve gotten support from Anna Hinson and the Wayne county art council! I’m apart of The artist group of Mount olive. It’s slow building but here! The goal is to make art until I can’t anymore. And I say, The “Earth” without “Art” is just “Eh,” get it ?!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road hasn’t been so smooth due to my creativity and competitiveness. I try to be the best at what I do but sometimes fear kicks in and I have other responsibilities and obligations. I also possess other skill sets that help manages constant money flow and sometimes art is there. But I am trying to build a life fully around art. It’s hasn’t be as smooth due to myself and the journey I have to learn from but that’s solely my opinion. If I knew the things now, then the journey could have been smooth as butter.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do graphic design, paintings, prints, stickers, acrylic paint, logo design etc. Anything graphic design, I specialize in. I love white space and using it in my design. Lately I want to get more paintings in more art galleries. I’m most proud of being apart of the artist group and getting art into hospitals and galleries. I’m not sure what sets me apart yet, but I’m building that up. It takes time and I’m starting to understand that.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Consistency is key. It’s not always about doing the art either. You’ll have to learn a lot along the way and never…. I mean never compare yourself to others. God could be putting you in a position where the devil has someone else. Regardless of your situation, be grateful for it and understand that everything you’re going through is a lesson because there are no enemies in this world… just bad teachers. Stay consistent and that could take you further than talent.
