Meet Daniel Anderson of Daniel Anderson Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Anderson.

Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started traditional woodworking as a hobby, and enjoyed it so much I started my own business two years later. In 2022 I purchased a couple of acres in Pisgah Forest, NC, and built a shop where I both work and live.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding consistent patronage has been my biggest challenge over the years. Some months I’m swamped with work and some months I’m twiddling my thumbs. It can be somewhat nerve wracking when bills are coming due.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My main inspirations come from Japanese, Shaker, and MCM sources. I employ a combination of both traditional hand tools and modern machinery in my work.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
As difficult as it can be to find customers who both want hand made furniture and are willing to foot the costs associated, I remain optimistic that people will continue to find value in what I do and support it.
