Exploring Life & Business with Matt Golamco of The Creator District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Golamco.

Hi Matt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got started back during Covid where I picked up a camera to become a Twitch streamer. As I improved my content production skills, I was eventually asked to start shooting athletics for my friends. As I grew my skills and my network, bigger and better opportunities presented themselves. I eventually became one of the video producers for NC State Women’s Basketball, covering their run in the 2023-2024 season all the way up to the NCAA Final Four in Cleveland. After that year, some circumstances led me to be the lead video coordinator for the team for the following season, covering the team’s run to the Sweet Sixteen. When that season came to a close, I was hired to be the Video Director for Florida State Women’s Basketball. I spent a season with them, and now I am back in Raleigh to build a content production business

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Content production is a bumpy road of building your skills as a creator and also as a business. I ran into almost every obstacle that is possible. Scams, non-payment, usage infringement, long hours with little return, all of it. One struggle that happens often is people saying that I am not worth the amount that I want to charge. Unfortunately, as a creator not everyone will see the value that you bring, and it keeps you humble and pushes you to be better

We’ve been impressed with The Creator District, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Creator District is a full-service social media and content production company based in Raleigh, NC. We work with local and regional businesses that want their online presence to actually reflect the quality of what they do. We handle everything. Strategy, campaign building, pre-production, shooting, editing, and everything in between.

What sets us apart is that we’re content-first. I built TCD around high-production video because that’s what actually builds trust online. When your page looks professional, people believe in your business before they ever reach out. Social media is your first impression now, and first impressions deserve to be done right.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I ended up having a mentor for my first year with NC State, and I learned a lot from her. It was a short period of time of active mentorship, but I was able to get a lot of great feedback on my work and how to navigate the video production space
