Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey to entrepreneurship was definitely not a traditional one; looking back, it’s purely a story of God’s good grace and beautiful, serendipitous timing. If you had asked me before 2017 if I ever planned on owning a wedding venue, I would have told you absolutely not. I hold a degree in mathematics, and my original plan was to head to graduate school for structural engineering! But life—and the military—had much bigger, unexpected plans for me.
The military actually played a massive role in how I ended up here. I am originally from the Pacific Northwest, but my bonus-dad, who is now retired from the Army, was supposed to be stationed elsewhere. At the last minute, the military changed his orders, and we ended up at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Later on, my own wedding had to be put on hold for an entire year due to a deployment. At the time, delays can feel frustrating, but I am now profoundly grateful for that shift in timing. When I first started looking for wedding venues, Studio 215 didn’t even exist yet. Because of that deployment delay, the venue was open and ready by the time we were looking again, and I ended up getting married there in March of 2017.
I was just a bride who fell in love with a space, with no idea that it would become my life’s work.
Shortly after my wedding, the previous owner approached me to take over day-to-day operations and become the venue manager. I fell in love with the business, and fast-forward through a couple of years of hard work, I am now in my sixth year of full ownership.
It is incredibly funny how life works out. All because of marrying my best friend and the unpredictable nature of military life, I pivoted from my original career plan to something I love more than anything. Today, I have the distinct honor and privilege of owning this beautiful, highly-rated venue in downtown Fayetteville, providing the perfect backdrop for so many of life’s most beautiful moments.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, absolutely not. Like any business, entrepreneurship comes with its fair share of ups and downs, and the wedding industry knows that truth all too well. To put it lightly, 2020 was incredibly rough, and navigating the unexpected challenges of that time required every ounce of resilience I had. Like any seasonal business, we also have our slower periods that require careful planning and patience.
More recently, the economy has definitely taken a toll on the industry, forcing businesses to be more creative and couples to be more intentional with their spending. On top of that, the sudden rise of event AI and advanced digital tools has completely changed the game. It has transformed everything from day-to-day operations to how couples actually find businesses and research venues. Navigating these constant technological and economic shifts means constantly adapting just to keep up.
But even with all of these AI changes, we refuse to let technology replace the human connection. When you reach out to Studio 215, you are still getting a real human on the other end. We are truly a family business, and we want everyone who walks through our doors to feel that personal, caring touch.
I think people often have a misconception about the wedding industry. They see the beautiful finished product—the flowers, the lighting, the happy couples—but they don’t see the immense amount of behind-the-scenes work that goes into making a wedding or celebration perfect.
I put my heart, soul, and literal sweat into Studio 215. It truly is a labor of love.
