Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Akouka.
Hi Karina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I came to Real Estate after a 20 year career in Social Work. For years, my work centered on advocacy, listening deeply, and guiding people through some of the most stressful and emotional transitions of their lives. Over time, I realized that those same skills translated beautifully into real estate, especially when it comes to helping people move, relocate, or make big life changes.
When I transitioned into real estate, I was drawn to working with buyers, particularly families and individuals relocating to the Raleigh, Cary, and Apex area, because I understand how overwhelming a move can feel. Buying a home isn’t just a transaction. It’s deeply personal. It’s about safety, stability, and starting a new chapter.
As my business grew, so did my vision. I built my business around a concierge style approach, focusing on education, transparency, and calm guidance rather than pressure or urgency. I want my clients to feel supported and confident at every step, whether they are first time buyers, relocating from out of state, or navigating a major life transition.
Today, I am proud to run a relationship driven real estate business rooted in trust, care, and long term connection. My background continues to shape how I show up for my clients, leading with empathy, clear communication, and an unwavering commitment to helping them find not just a house, but a place that truly feels like home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road! Like many entrepreneurs, especially in a relationship driven business, I’ve faced moments of uncertainty, steep learning curves, and seasons that required a lot of resilience. Building a real estate business means navigating fluctuating markets, managing client expectations, and learning how to balance being constantly available while still protecting my own time and energy.
One of the biggest challenges was learning to trust myself early on. Believing that I had the ability to find my own clients and build my business the way I would like. Real estate can be noisy, with a lot of advice coming from every direction, and it takes time to develop confidence in your own voice, values and personal brand. There were also personal seasons of transition that pushed me to grow faster than I expected or was even really ready for. But I was up for the challenge and feel excited and driven by the future I am creating for me and my daughters doing exactly what I love to do.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the core of my work, I help people navigate one of the biggest transitions of their lives with clarity, steadiness, and care. Many of my clients are moving from out of state or entering a new chapter, and my role goes far beyond helping them find a home. I help them understand the area, the process, and what will truly support their lifestyle long term.
I’m known for my calm, concierge style approach. I take the time to educate my clients, advocate for them, and make sure they never feel rushed or pressured. My background in social work deeply influences how I show up. I listen carefully, anticipate concerns, and guide people through complex decisions with empathy and transparency. Clients often tell me they feel grounded and supported working with me, even in competitive or emotionally charged situations.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. Many relationships extend well beyond closing day, and a large portion of my business comes from referrals, people finding me and connecting with me over social media and repeat clients. That tells me I’m doing something right! I’m proud that I’ve built a business that prioritizes people over transactions and values long term connection over quick wins.
What sets me apart is how personally I take my role. I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach. I run my business intentionally, with clear communication, and a deep respect for the weight of the decisions my clients are making. My goal is always the same. To help people feel confident, informed, and genuinely cared for as they move into their next chapter.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
What I’ve learned is that luck tends to meet preparation and integrity. Many of the outcomes that look like “good luck” from the outside came from consistently showing up, working late hours, having a willingness to continue doing the work, and building genuine relationships over time. The challenges that felt like bad luck often became the moments that strengthened my resilience, clarified my values, and shaped how I run my business today.
In real estate, markets shift and circumstances change quickly, and not everything is within your control. What is within your control is how you respond. I’ve learned to stay steady, adaptable, and grounded regardless of external conditions. In that sense, luck may open a door, but it’s consistency that determines the outcome.
