Community Highlights: Meet Kirill SHRAYBER of SolCity Nav LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirill SHRAYBER.

Hi Kirill, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been working in cartography for over 25 years. Our company is small, with just a few people, but all of them are highly qualified. SolCity NAV LLC is registered in Delaware, but we live and work in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. We are currently world leaders in our market segment. Our online clients are the red pulsing dots right now. https://vectormap.net/visitors/
My staff and I are members of the American Geographical Society. Our maps are widely used in media, urban planning, film, architecture, design, and marketing.
Our clients include Volvo and Starbucks, National Geographic, and almost all television and film companies, as well as many smaller clients. Our maps are also widely used for scientific purposes and in educational institutions. We all originally lived in Russia, in St. Petersburg, but about 15 years ago we moved to the Dominican Republic. It’s a small, cheerful country, and we really like it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path to market leadership was quite difficult and long. But there are no special secrets—just a lot of work. Our map collection is now online—approximately 5,000 vector maps of cities and countries. We also provide free vector versions of maps to Wikipedia, among other resources, for educational purposes. Here you can see where our maps are used in the media: https://vectormap.net/maps-for-cinema-broadcasting-media-serials-unlimited-using/

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SolCity Nav LLC?
🧭 Market Leader & Main Competitors
Vectormap.net stands out as a market leader among paid providers of vector city and country maps for design and publishing—especially when it comes to product range, detail, quality, and price. The primary competitors offer some strong features, but as a group, they don’t match vectormap.net’s combination of scale and professional depth.

Top 5 direct competitors:

Map Resources (mapresources.com)
Maproom (maproom.net)
Netmaps (netmaps.net)
ScalableMaps (scalablemaps.com)
VectorWorldMap (vectorworldmap.com)
📌 Product Assortment
Vectormap.net offers over 4,000 unique city, country, and region maps—by far the broadest paid catalog available.
By comparison:

Map Resources: ~300–500 maps, mostly US-focused or a handful of global cities.
Maproom: 150–300 maps, focusing on info-graphics and vector base maps.
Netmaps: Claims “thousands,” but actual truly unique downloads are in the 100–300 range.
ScalableMaps: About 200–300 maps with a focus on clarity, at lower detail than vectormap.net.
VectorWorldMap: 50–100 maps, primarily outlines of countries, the world, and regions.
📌 Detail and Map Quality
Vectormap.net: Industry-leading detail. All maps are multilayered with roads, streets, parks, infrastructure, and names organized into editable layers—ideal for professional design and deep customization.
Map Resources: Strong detail for select locations; core objects on layers; all maps editable.
Maproom: Medium detail geared to infographics; simpler layer structure.
Netmaps: Most files are low-to-medium detail; fewer unique features on each map.
ScalableMaps: Emphasis on clean, minimalist layouts—major transport, water, and borders only.
VectorWorldMap: Mostly country outines, with limited extra features.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risks always exist – simply because people make mistakes. In my life in Russia, there were more than enough risks. That’s why we moved to the Dominican Republic.
I have extensive business experience; in Russia, I worked in various, very complex printing projects, mainly for advertising. Again, in my market segment, my small company was a leader. I had no intention of emigrating, but gradually, politics in Russia began to turn into a totalitarian dictatorship. So we left. Purely theoretically, risks in business are mainly related to mistakes. Typical mistakes include misunderstanding market trends, poor decisions, planning errors, and business organization. As a rule, companies fail not because some evil force destroys them. The cause of a company’s demise and ruin is usually rooted in internal management errors.
