Conversations with Sean Stephens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Stephens.

Hi Sean, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Sean Stephens, I go by the moniker, HARD FAQX. I would like to recognize this name as more than just a s stage name, and connect with it more as a persona, but not an alter ego.

HARD FAQX is equated by two parts, the man and the mission. (Human Archetype Revered Design- Functional Application Quantifies Excellence.

For as long as I can recall, I have been tied to art. Art was an avenue I was driven towards. Like a magnet, it attracted me or as a vortex it would consistently spin me within it until time became what would seem endless.

Since a child’s age, I began with simple drawings, painting, and desiring to compose and write music. Not sheet music but lyrics, not regular lyrics to captivate but lyrics that would evoke emotion and send one to another world.

I grabbed on to music and became a composer out of necessity. Beat making and producing whether solo or team driven lead me to a different scape of music.

From there I began to take photos and design clothes desiring to feed what continued to drive me towards this thing, this pocket, or unseen world we call art.

I shortly seen it cannot be tamed easily, especially as inspiration comes and goes. Age constraints put in place by lore and unwritten rulings stunted my pursuit at one time. For years I chose to not fulfill my passions due to uncertainty and criticism.

Today, I am happy to have overcome any doubt, unhappiness, and mental constraint that has kept me stagnant. I owe a great deal credit to my fellow artist and long time friend Charlie Robinson AKA Charlie Indigo. I now pursue creation and that alone brings happiness and fulfillment. Discovered or undiscovered, I will continue to create within multiple sects of art. For over 25 years now have I been suspended in the realm of art. I hope to continue this journey double that time from this point.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been very rocky with an unkempt terrain thus far. I co founded several bands/groups in my career. RED Cipher, The embassy, Wolfgang, and The Rebels.

All these groups/bands were dismantled due to creative differences and or personal disagreements. Business decisions also played a role in member disconnections.

Record deals from Sony/BMG and subsidiary imprints did not stand for more reasons than one. Fast forward to recent years there has been multiple let downs. Industry infrastructure and cultural shifts did and still does pose obstacles in such a cash intensive industry.

Independent pursuit aiming away from the limelight and famous scopes have proven to be the most aligning plan of action. Just creating art is now my plan and seems to be the focus for me now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I find myself covering multiple lanes at once these days. I write and record music, I produce and compose beats, I design clothes, I run a start up venture called Cinematic in hopes of composing for Tv, independent films, and sitcoms.

I am intrigued by photography for fun, I am also currently writing my first book. Lastly, I am launching a website for listeners within the next few weeks.

I am known for deep discussions, and talk pieces, urban philosophy, and telling the truth.

I am proud to just be continuing what so many have chosen to quit pursuing. I am most thankful following my passion and hearing from others that were inspired by, intrigued by, motivated by, or truly appreciate art that I have published.

It’s all about the impact that I would like to leave.. That’s what sets me apart from other contributors to any art form.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would like to believe the characteristics that keep me moving forward is authenticity. I do not like painting a facade of superficial exteriors. While I do appreciate providing a level of mystique, I see no value in vanity for viewership or engagement.
