Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Fisher.
Jeremy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
ProFish Media is husband and wife team, Jennifer and Jeremy Fisher. This September will mark 12 years since our first wedding which is really the beginning of our story. In short, a long time friend asked me to film her wedding. I had never filmed a wedding at this point nor ever considered it. I was going some video work at a church because I really enjoyed being creative and thought it was fun. I actually referred her to a friend that was a real wedding videographer. After pricing it out she came back to me and asked me again and I said I would do it. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing really, I was just trying to capture all of the moments. The rest is, as they say, history I guess. They were very happy with their video and in a very short time, I got a call to do another wedding, then another, then another. After realizing I was on to something, the name ProFish Media was born because my name is Jeremy Fisher and I didn’t want to be called Jeremy Fisher Videography or anything like that. What started as filming one wedding for a friend quickly turned into a business. I would say many people get into this type of work by shadowing or working as a second shooter for someone else. That was certainly not the case for me. I don’t have a clue how any other videographer does things on a wedding day, but I know what works for us, our clients, and has built a successful 12 year business after filming hundreds of weddings. The first five years I was in a full time IT career while I built my business and I have been full-time now for about the last seven years. From the first wedding I have been determined to learn my craft, improve, grow, network, and build wonderful and lasting relationships with not just my clients, but fellow wedding vendors. At times I get a bit overwhelmed and emotional when I think about all of the people I”ve had the honor to serve and meet and become friends with that I would have never known otherwise. As a people person, it’s really the perfect fit for me. We have built our business and reputation on more than the quality of our work. I am more proud of the reviews we get that talk of what kind of people we are. Regardless of budget, every wedding gets the same attention to detail and professionalism. Even after 12 years I feel like I story is still being written and has many more chapters to go.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s actually been a great road and one I would go down again but like anything else, there’s always challenges. In the beginning, it was simply learning to navigate the wedding day and balancing a full time career and having two young kids at the time. Growing didn’t seem to be the hard part. That came quickly and naturally with a lot of hard work and consistency. I think we probably experience some of the same challenges any other wedding vendor does like a slow economy, while rare and unusual, the random last minute cancellation you can’t recover, and one I have always hated, having to turn down couples that really want you to film their wedding because you are already booked. Overall, it’s been a really smooth road I would travel down again.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While I’ve been intentional about building our portfolio with all kinds of different types of videography, weddings are what we are known for. Weddings are where we got our start. We specialize in full day wedding videography. Every videographer has their own style. I was not mentored into this business nor have I ever studied or copied the style of any other videographer. My approach is simple, I can’t tell the story of your whole day if I’m not there the whole day. I’ve told countless brides that and I believe that’s what sets us apart. While most in the industry charge hourly rates and commonly work 8 hours on a wedding day, we do not charge hourly rates, have one all-inclusive full day package, and usually on site a minimum of 12 hours. We capture every moment from hair and makeup at the beginning of the day, until the last sparkler dies out after the grand exit and everything in between. Our goal is that when you watch your video, it’s truly like reliving that day over and over, and that’s what we have heard for 12 years. We strive to capture the emotion and detail of each wedding that truly captures the very essence of what that day was truly like. While weddings are what we are most know for, I film everything form music videos, to birthday parties, event promos, and real estate and more. We also offer vintage/legacy media digital conversion where we convert VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, MiniDV, Super 8 and regular 8mm film.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Put people first. Build positive relationships. Network with every wedding vender at every wedding. Be willing to do things that “isn’t your job”. Approach what you do with a true heart of service. Realize the gravity of the day and how big of a day this is for your couple. Put their requests and needs above all else. Listen, learn, grow, be ready to pivot.
