Community Highlights: Meet Anthony Garcia-Copian of Raleigh Tea Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Garcia-Copian.

Anthony, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We began at Transfer Food Hall eight years ago. From there we opened a store at City Market for a year and we are now an online store with various stores and cafes selling our organic tea. Having cafes like Little Blue Bakehouse and stores like Mindful Merchant in Cary has helped us achieve a small and private clientele.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles were not bad as local stores are open to helping local vendors.. I find that now outdoor markets have gotten greedy and charge high prices. Also these collective stores are also doing the same things and between that and sales taxes and credit card fees it’s become harder to add sunshine to the survival sky. The hordes of people moving here have made it more difficult as we were one of the few local tea vendors and now the newcomers are opening little tea shops and so forth. It’s a catch 22 since we also get new clients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in creating blends of herbal and true teas. We specialize in tea for cures and luxury tea gifts. We’re also known for providing educational tea parties.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up in Spain and Miami, my mother always made herbal infusions for whatever ailments we had. My mom never used frozen foods she always used fresh herbs and produce and would always give us cool stuff like bee pollen and such.
