Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Landau.
Hi Leah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Raleigh, NC, as a competitive dancer who loved to sing and perform in community theater. In college I was introduced to the industry of professional theater and realized I could turn my talents and training into a career. After a decade of being in the New York musical theater scene, my life shifted to the world of health and wellness and teaching yoga and dance. When my daughter was about four months old I learned about the Music Together program while we were living in West Palm Beach, Florida. I fell in love with the music in its curriculum and the way playing with the songs provided education for my baby while simultaneously bringing us closer together. When my daughter started school it was time for me to don my teacher hat again and I taught Music Together for an organization called Tracie’s Music Together in North Palm Beach and the surrounding areas. After over three years of teaching in Florida our little family decided to move closer to my parents and brother in Greensboro, NC. There were and are other early educational music programs in the area, but at that time there wasn’t anyone offering the Music Together curriculum. So I decided to start my own center because I wanted to share the joys that were such a gift for my family with others! Music Together Triad has now been in business for a full year, offering classes in Greensboro, Oak Ridge, and Summerfield! Our schedule and classes have grown over the past year and I’m so excited to continue to expand, including new teachers, new classes and locations, and new families coming together for the love of children and music!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luckily I’ve had a smooth road for my first year as a business owner. there have been a few bumps along the way, but thankfully nothing catastrophic. North Carolinians have a way of bonding together in support when other folks are in need, and that was apparent when at one point I needed to find a replacement location with just a few weeks notice. It’s been a pleasure to meet many other business owners in the area, and we all support one another and lift each other up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Music Together Triad, we are proud to offer the early childhood music program Music Together®. Since 1987, Music Together has introduced millions of children, parents, and teachers around the world to the powerful benefits of having music in their lives.
From babyhood through the early elementary years, Music Together nurtures each child’s natural musicality in a playful, musically rich learning environment. Our research-based music classes are designed to be non-formal and non-performance oriented, so your child can learn at their own pace, in a way that’s developmentally appropriate.
One of the things I’m most proud of about our brand is our inclusivity. No matter the age or the ability of the children (or their grown-ups), our program meets our students where they’re at and celebrates their individual expressions of creativity. In fact, this fall we will be offering a class catered to families with children who have special needs and their siblings. This class will be taught by one of our seasoned Music Together Triad moms who is also an Occupational Therapist and a trained Music Together teacher!
What matters most to you? Why?
When a family sits down in our circle, the thing that most matters to me is that they feel welcomed and supported. When we remove any expectations that they and their children need to behave in any performative way, parents are able to get loose, get silly, and be present with their children for the duration of class. They’re then able to connect to other caregivers and build friendships that can last a lifetime.
