Conversations with Phocus SMF

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phocus SMF.

Phocus, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a love and appreciation for music, i knew i wanted to be a rapper and young age but most people told me i should do something more productive so my goals kinda switched for me in my development years. I was still in band in middle and high school and even college so my passion never really truly died. Around the time i was 17/18 i decided i wanted to take rapping seriously so i started righting, i didn’t really show it to anybody at first maybe because of the people around me that made me feel like it was a waste of time. But i eventually found some cool people that were either rapping themselves or at least interested in the stuff i wrote. As years passed i got more comfortable with showing people what i wrote rapping with other rappers in cyphers recording and even performing. The more i did anything with my rap career the more alive i felt, it’s a tough thing to explain but if you’ve ever done anything you’re passionate about then that’s the feeling i get when i make music or do anything to progress my career. As of today ive had features with YFM Ray, Big Mali, and Rich Dunk I’ve also been featured on mixtapes hosted by Dave East, Skippa Da Flippa, and multiple featuring artist playlists on different music streaming platforms like datpiff SoundCloud Spotify and more. I’ve also had collaborations with Zaytoven and DJ Kid on two different records and I’m actually in the works on another track with DJ Kid right now. I’ve performed in Fayetteville nc, Greensboro nc, Charlotte nc, high point nc, spring lake nc, and Atlanta ga. I’ve been in the Fayetteville observer (our local newspaper) and also featured on 104.5 radio as well as The Grind Infotainment radio. I’ve pretty much been taking any and every opportunity possible to expand my brand and make myself a household name. I appreciate you reaching out and wanting to share my story i look forward to seeing how it comes out.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest obstacles for me has been finances and connections. I’m getting a little more established but i just feel like those two things could tremendously help if they were in better shape

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel like the most important characteristic for me to have is to remain teachable, I’ve learned a lot and grown a lot but i know i don’t know everything and i believe being teachable helps us as humans not get too big headed and to stay focused on our goals
