Hi Patsy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, I am Patsy Lupton, the proud owner of Publicity Wax Studio! Publicity was born from the idea that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy their self-care in a environment where they feel safe and judgment free.
In 2014, I graduated from Ogle Hair, Skin and Nails in San Antonio, Texas with my Esthetics license. Shortly after graduation I found myself trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my license. I started with humbling beginnings at both Sephora and ULTA as a beauty advisor slowing climbing my way up to assistant manager but that wasn’t enough. I slowly realized I wanted to have closer client interactions past retails sales. I wanted to become a part of my client’s monthly self-care and routines and what better way to do so then to become a waxing specialist.
I started working at a local waxing franchise with a friend just as a part-time summer job. Little did I know this summer job was going to turn into a small business a year later. My time at the waxing franchise I noticed that there were different subsections of clientele that just were not being catered to. I wanted people from all walks of life to enter a space and have a tailor-made waxing experience where they felt seen and understood. Not just another paying client for a service. I did not want to build a clientele; I wanted to build a community!
In 2021 I made the bold decision to open my own wax studio in Cornelius that focused on inclusivity and positive body imagine. Five year later I am still thriving in business and growing exponentially.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am sure I can speak for all entrepreneurs when it comes to their journey with building their business, the road is never smooth! My road has had potholes, speed dumps, and detours. Building Publicity took blood, sweat, and a lot of tears. I opened the studio with the bare minimums during a time where everyone was building super esthetic salon spaces. Although I had an established clientele, I was nervous about being able to retain their loyalty and meet their expectation. Through trial and error, I was able to create a business model that worked for my clients and myself. No one tells you that when you are opening your business you are going to have to learn balance with your business and personal life. I struggled tremendously in the beginning of the creation of Publicity Wax Studio. I was trying to balance learning how to parent my son post separation, working three jobs, and trying to find myself. My struggles were not centered around my business but more in my personal life. Entrepreneurship should come with a warning label! The results may vary depending on your balance, because that’s exactly what I was experiencing. While business was prospering, behind the scenes my personal life was on fire. Luckily I was blessed with such a supportive and encouraging mother that I was able to get through my struggles and come out on top!

Publicity Wax Studio is a waxing studio located in Cornelius, North Carolina that specializes in Full Body waxing for EVERYONE. I created Publicity Wax Studio to provide tailor-made waxing services to the community and it’s member from all walks of life. Publicity believes everyone deserves a customizable waxing experience for all their self care needs. I am proud to say Publicity Wax Studio has been open for the past 5 years and have won various awards for being Cornelius favorite wax studio.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Connecting with people makes me happy. Whether it is in business, servicing my clientele, or making connections with family and friends. I love sharing stories, moments, and memories with those around me. In a society where connection is no longer a priority, I enjoy taking the time to listen to stories and moments that shaped the people I encounter. Often times it’s little silly anecdotes but that fact they decided to share them with me means the world. In return I love sharing my own personal journey and story because you never know who it might touch and lead them to have to courage to do what their heart desires!
