Today we’d like to introduce you to Quincy Jones.
Hi Quincy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Quincy Jones, better known as Chef Q. My journey started by working in local restaurants, hotels, and country clubs throughout the area, where I learned every position in the kitchen from prep cook and dishwasher to line cook, sous chef, and beyond. Those experiences gave me the foundation and work ethic that shaped who I am today.
Eventually, I stepped out on faith to build something of my own. What started as selling plates on the side of the road grew into a catering company, private chef experiences, and now, by God’s grace, I’ve recently opened my first brick-and-mortar restaurant. It’s been a journey built on hard work, perseverance, and faith, and I’m excited for what comes next.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most entrepreneurs, there were plenty of challenges along the way. In the beginning, I had to learn how to run a business while also figuring out how to find customers and build a reputation. I wasn’t just the chef I was the owner, marketer, customer service representative, accountant, and everything in between. Learning to wear all those hats while still delivering a great product was one of the biggest challenges.
COVID was another major turning point. At first, I thought it would hurt my business, but it actually became one of my biggest opportunities. That’s when I introduced private chef dinners, and people were looking for safe, intimate dining experiences at home. That pivot helped my business grow, opened new doors, and taught me that sometimes your biggest obstacles can become your greatest opportunities if you’re willing to adapt.

Taste of Soul is more than just a restaurant it’s a brand built around bringing people together through great food and genuine hospitality. We specialize in elevated Southern comfort food with bold flavors, quality ingredients, and a creative twist while still honoring the dishes people grew up loving.
Beyond the restaurant, we offer full-service catering, private chef experiences, corporate events, weddings, and special occasions throughout North Carolina and beyond. Every event is customized because we believe every client deserves something memorable.
We’re also expanding with Chef Q’s Soulful Sensations, our signature line of sauces and seasonings inspired by the same flavors our guests have come to love at the restaurant. It’s another way we’re bringing our recipes and passion into people’s homes and continuing to grow the brand beyond the dining table.
What sets us apart is that we’re not just serving meals we’re creating experiences. Whether it’s a takeout order, an intimate dinner for two, or a large catered event, we want people to feel the passion and care behind everything we do.
What I’m most proud of is how this brand has evolved. What started as selling plates on the side of the road has grown into a catering company, private chef experiences, a brick-and-mortar restaurant, and now our own line of signature sauces and seasonings. But even bigger than the business itself is the impact we hope to make. Through our food, our faith, and our commitment to serving others, we’re building something that creates opportunities, strengthens our community, and leaves a legacy for the next generation.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
No one builds something like this alone. While I won’t name individuals because I know I’d unintentionally leave someone out, I truly owe so much to my family, close friends, loyal customers, and the people who believed in me long before the business became what it is today.
Their encouragement, prayers, support, referrals, and willingness to keep showing up have made this journey possible. Every person who bought a plate when I was just getting started, booked me for a catering event, trusted me to cook for their family, shared my posts, or simply spoke my name in a room full of opportunity has played a part in this story.
Above all, I give God the glory. He has faithfully opened doors, connected me with the right people at the right time, and carried me through every challenge. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey, and I hope to continue serving them with excellence for many years to come.
