Exploring Life & Business with Isaiah Marshall of Ironwood PCs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Marshall.

Hi Isaiah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been someone who liked understanding how things work and figuring out how to fix them. Before starting Ironwood PCs, I worked as a electrician, which gave me a strong technical background and taught me the importance of doing work correctly, safely, and professionally.

Computers had always been a major interest of mine, and over time I started building, upgrading, and repairing systems for friends, family, and people in my community. What started as something I was naturally good at quickly turned into something people trusted me for. I kept seeing the same problem: customers were often dealing with poor communication, rushed repairs, overpriced services, or custom computers that were built without much attention to detail.

That pushed me to create Ironwood PCs. I wanted to build a company that treated computer work like a real professional trade, not just a side hustle. We focus on custom gaming and workstation PCs, repairs, upgrades, diagnostics, data recovery, and IT support for both individuals and local businesses.

Since launching, the response from the community has been incredible. The business has grown largely through word of mouth, customer referrals, and local support. I’ve had the opportunity to work on everything from high-end custom computers and damaged systems to business networks and difficult diagnostic cases.

Today, I’m focused on growing Ironwood PCs beyond traditional repair work and developing it into a trusted regional brand for custom computers and technology services. My goal is to give customers the level of craftsmanship, transparency, and personal service that I felt was missing from the industry. We are based just outside Wake Forest and proudly serve Wake Forest and the greater Raleigh area.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been building a business from the ground up while also doing nearly every part of the work myself. In the beginning, I wasn’t only repairing and building computers. I was also handling customer communication, scheduling, marketing, accounting, ordering parts, developing the website and learning the business side as I went.

Earning people’s trust was another major challenge. Customers are often handing me expensive equipment that may also contain important personal or business data, so trust has to be earned through honesty, communication and consistent results. I’ve had to learn how to explain complicated technical problems clearly, set realistic expectations and sometimes tell a customer that a repair may not be financially worthwhile.

There have also been financial challenges. Computer parts are expensive, prices can change quickly and one unexpected issue can affect the profitability of an entire project. Growing responsibly has meant learning when to reinvest, how to price my work fairly and how to protect the business without losing the personal service that helped it grow.

Despite those challenges, every difficult job has made me a better technician and business owner. The setbacks forced me to improve my processes, become more disciplined and take Ironwood PCs more seriously. I’m still learning every day, but seeing customers return, recommend us to others and trust us with increasingly complex work has made the difficult parts worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ironwood PCs?
Ironwood PCs is a locally owned technology company specializing in custom gaming and workstation computers, computer repair, upgrades, advanced diagnostics, data recovery and IT support for individuals and small businesses. We serve Wake Forest and the greater Raleigh area, with a focus on giving customers professional-quality service without the impersonal experience that often comes with larger repair chains.

What sets us apart is the amount of care we put into both the technical work and the customer experience. We take the time to understand what the customer actually needs, explain the problem clearly and recommend the best solution rather than automatically pushing the most expensive option. Whether we are building a high-end custom computer, troubleshooting a difficult hardware issue or helping a business with its technology, the goal is always to provide honest advice and dependable work.

Our custom computers are designed around the customer instead of being treated like generic prebuilt systems. We consider performance, cooling, reliability, appearance, noise level and future upgradeability. Every system is professionally assembled, tested and configured before it reaches the customer. We also support our work after the sale, which is something I believe is just as important as the build itself.

I am especially proud that Ironwood PCs has grown largely through word of mouth, referrals and the trust of the local community. Customers know they can communicate directly with the person working on their equipment and receive real updates throughout the process.

Ultimately, I want readers to know that Ironwood PCs was built to raise the standard for local computer service. We combine the craftsmanship and accountability of a skilled trade with modern technology, personalized service and a genuine commitment to doing the job correctly.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my dad helped me build my first computer for my birthday. It was a bright red tower that looked almost like something out of Power Rangers, and at the time I thought it was the coolest computer in the world.

I was still young and learning, but I remember how exciting it was to choose the parts, put everything together and finally see it power on. Having my dad there helping me made the experience even more meaningful and gave me the confidence to keep learning about computers.

Looking back, that birthday computer was one of the earliest moments that shaped my interest in building PCs. Years later, that same excitement became a major part of why I started Ironwood PCs.
