Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Norman.
Hi Bill, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After visiting our first Distillery in 2012, we knew that this is what we wanted to do. Andrew Norman, our son, was a mortgage banker at the time. He came to us in 2014 and said “this is not for me” and “let’s start a distillery”. Andrew
began the study of distilling and is now the Master Distiller at Fainting Goat Spirits.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
in 2020, The government asked that Anyone making 190 proof alcohol, please make hand sanitizer. For three years, we did not produce any whiskies, bourbons, gin or vodka. We made hand sanitizer and gave it away for free to our Greensboro community. You would pull up to the Distillery, hand us a container, and we would fill it for no charge. It was the right thing to do at the time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Fainting Goat Spirits produces Vodka, Gin, Single Malt Whiskey, Rye Whiskey and Bottled in Bond Bourbon. Although we got into business for Bourbon, (and it is delicious, aged 6 years) our Vodka and Gin are also products that tasters can’t get over. Our Gin was named #2 Gin in the world by Cigar and Spirits Magazine.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
It takes a couple of years to get through the licensing process to begin to produce Alcohol. The majority of what we make sits 6 years before it is ready. It is a very cash front business.
