Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Harris.
Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been anything but traditional, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Professionally, I’m a registered nurse, and throughout my career I’ve always been drawn to helping people navigate life’s biggest transitions with compassion and purpose. At the same time, I’ve always had a creative side. My grandmother owned Judd’s Florist in Apex, NC, for over 40 years- one of the few Black florists during her time in the area. She retired at 80 and passed away 5 years ago, and was absolutely my very best friend. I began making floral arrangements as a way to reduce stress, help loved ones, and feel closer to her. In October 2025, after much encouragement, many prayers, and deciding to “do it scared”, I opened Harris & Co. Floral Bar!
Flowers have the ability to tell a story, evoke emotion, and become a beautiful part of everyday moments, whether big or small.
Today, my mission is to create intentional, garden-inspired floral designs that feel timeless, welcoming, and deeply personal. I’m passionate about serving people across North Carolina while continuing to grow creatively and professionally.I hope to build a legacy that blends artistry, hospitality, and Looking ahead, service—whether through beautiful floral experiences or the work I do to help people in healthcare.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what has made the journey so meaningful.
Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve experienced moments of self-doubt and fear…wondering if I was good enough, if people would value my work, or if I could successfully balance building a business while working full-time in healthcare and dealing with family life. There have been seasons where growth felt slower than I hoped, and I’ve had to remind myself that comparison can easily steal the joy from creating.
I’ve also learned that building a business isn’t just about designing beautiful flowers; it’s about developing confidence, learning how to price your work, finding your ideal clients, building relationships with venues and vendors, and continually refining your craft. Every challenge has become an opportunity to learn.
The biggest lesson has been choosing to move forward even when I felt uncertain. I’ve realized that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s taking the next step despite it. Looking back, every obstacle has helped shape both my business and who I am as a person. I’m still learning every day, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited for where the journey will lead next.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My design style is rooted in natural movement, intentional color, and garden-inspired florals that feel both elevated and welcoming. I love creating pieces that look as though they were gathered effortlessly from a flourishing garden while still feeling refined and timeless.
What I’m most proud of is building a business that reflects who I am. While flowers are my creative medium, my passion has always been caring for people. As a nurse, I’ve spent my career supporting individuals through some of life’s most challenging moments. Through floral design, I have the privilege of celebrating life’s happiest moments, as well as some of the harder times too. Whether I’m designing a bridal bouquet, a statement centerpiece, or hosting a floral workshop, my goal is always the same: to create an experience that makes people feel seen, cared for, and connected.
I believe what sets Harris & Co. Floral Bar apart is the combination of artistry and hospitality. I don’t simply provide flowers; I strive to create an experience that feels personal from our first conversation to the final installation. I intentionally take on a limited number of weddings and events so each client receives thoughtful attention and a design tailored specifically to their story.
At the end of the day, I hope clients remember not only how beautiful the flowers were, but how they felt throughout the entire experience.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is to start before you feel completely ready. It’s easy to believe you need one more course, one more certification, or one more perfect portfolio before putting yourself out there. The truth is, confidence comes from doing the work, not waiting until you feel fearless.
I also wish I had understood that building a business is a marathon, not a sprint. Social media often highlights overnight success, but what you don’t see are the early mornings, late nights, mistakes, and countless hours spent refining your craft. Growth takes time, and that’s okay.
Invest in relationships as much as you invest in your skills. Some of the greatest opportunities I’ve had have come through genuine connections with other creatives, venues, vendors, and clients. Community over competition has been one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned.
Finally, don’t lose sight of why you started. Trends will change, algorithms will change, and comparison will always be tempting. Stay true to your values, continue learning, and create work that reflects who you are. People are drawn to authenticity, and there is room for everyone who is willing to serve others with excellence and heart.
