Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Sellars.
Hi Jenny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
26 years ago my mom Susie, was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was always her wish to have a little antique shop so along with a friend, Anna, (SuzAnna’s ) they found a little lawn mower repair shop store front, for rent and started a small shop. 26 years later we have expanded to a 5000 sq ft shop with dealers and consigners and customers who have become family! Now mom and I run the shop together! And mom is still battling cancer in one form or another, but the shop keeps her going!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not been a smooth road at all! Cancer, health issues of other family members, Anna’s husband passing away which caused Anna to step down. I, Jenny, took over for Anna and kept going. Recession of 2008 almost did us in. We had to close one location due to construction, opened a 2nd location. Moved first location to Rolesville in 2019. We lost my sister, Susie’s other daughter Emily, to cancer in 2019. Then covid hit and I was working harder than ever online to keep the shop going. Then construction at our Rolesville shop was another bump. Supposed to be 6/8 weeks of road closure turned into 18 months. But our customers were amazing and kept coming back!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our customer service sets us apart. We often say “if we did nothing more than inspire, we would be happy” we have amazing displays, amazing employees and amazing customers!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Our customers keep us going, plus our families! Could not do it without our families!
