Today we’d like to introduce you to Sage Morgan.
Hi Sage, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been making pots for more than half of my life, but drawing was my first love. I would copy manga pages and draw on vocab cards with bic pens in the middle of class to satiate my hands need for movement. I was placed into my High school ceramics course as a filler while I got my langue credit, I was so sad I wasn’t going to be able to be in a 2D portfolio period that year. I touched clay that same week and the rest is history. She’s my soul mate (the clay)
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Haywood community college, my school, set me off on an amazing path since graduating. The people I met and connections made from craft experiences helped propel me in the right direction.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The flora and fauna that feature on my work is the foundation stone of my love and appreciation for Appalachia. Hellbenders, lady slippers and the endemic snails that call small chunks of mountains their home. There is so much to discover and protect. I hope someone’s flair for the environment is heightened when they see one of my pieces.. “what is this” or “oh my favorite” are equally as exciting to hear.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I had been able to have many opportunities because of my teachers and assist at craft schools. Right place at the right time is a brick that supports a lot of careers. But I lean towards the luck of having such an amazing support system in my parents and partner, I am truly grateful.
