Today we’d like to introduce you to Ranndi Bitner.
Hi Ranndi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Ranndi Bitner, and I am the owner of Art of Physical Therapy. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where I was a competitive swimmer, and I went on to swim collegiately at Liberty University while studying Exercise Science. I have always been passionate about health and wellness. While in school you could often find me in the weight room or spending time in the athletic training room, whether I was prepping ice for teammates or learning about strength programming and rehab plans from our athletic trainers and coaches.
While I was on a mission trip to Guatemala in 2015 (summer before Senior year in college), I received a call that my grandfather had suffered a stroke. The summer after graduating from college, I worked at a sports performance gym called Lab Sports Performance in Roanoke, Virginia where I had the opportunity to lead private and semi-private strength workouts for athletes of all ages, as well as group exercise classes. During this time, my incredibly hard-working grandfather was determined to maintain his quality of life. Despite being hemiplegic, with his entire left side paralyzed, he was at the sports performance gym with me multiple days a week, working on stretching, strengthening, and cardio.
He was actually the one who encouraged me to pursue physical therapy. The following year, I enrolled at Campbell University where I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2020.
In 2020, I married my husband, Andrew, who introduced me to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As I became more involved in the sport, many of our teammates began asking me for advice about their injuries or requesting treatments like dry needling. I initially started Art of Physical Therapy as a way to provide convenient physical therapy services to athletes inside Gracie Raleigh.
Over time, the business continued to grow, and in 2025, Art of Physical Therapy became my full-time job. Owning AoPT has given me the opportunity to combine so many of the things I love. I get to work with athletes, especially Jiu-Jitsu athletes and swimmers, as well as active adults who want to continue doing the things they love. My goal is to provide individualized, high-quality care that not only helps people recover from injury, but helps them move better, perform better, and stay active for the long term.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. I went to school to become a physical therapist, not a business owner, so there has been a huge learning curve when it comes to running and growing a business. I love treating patients and feel very confident in that role, but learning about marketing, finances, hiring, systems, and all of the other pieces that happen behind the scenes has challenged me in completely different ways. I have learned to really love this side of it! I’m thankful to have great mentors like Brandon Garner and Bill Davis who are always willing to give me advice and answer my questions.
We’ve been impressed with Art of Physical Therapy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Art of Physical Therapy is a one-on-one physical therapy clinic in Raleigh focused on helping athletes and active adults recover from injury, move better, and confidently return to the activities they love. As an out-of-network clinic, we are able to make treatment decisions based on what each patient actually needs rather than what an insurance company dictates. This allows us to create a plan centered around their individual goals. We specialize in working with athletes of all ages, but we also work with active adults who simply want to keep training, exercising, and living an active lifestyle without pain holding them back.
One of the biggest things that sets us apart is the individualized care we provide. Every session is one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, which gives us the time to really listen to our patients, understand their goals, and determine the root cause of what is limiting them. We don’t want to just treat where someone hurts. We want to understand how they move, address the factors contributing to their injury, and then build them back up so they are prepared for the demands of their sport or activity.
Our approach combines hands-on treatment, including manual therapy and dry needling, with individualized strength, mobility, and movement training. Because of my background as a competitive swimmer and my involvement in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I also understand how important it is for athletes to work with someone who understands their sport. Our goal isn’t simply to get someone “pain-free.” We want to help them return to doing what they love with confidence and, ideally, come back stronger and more resilient.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of what Art of Physical Therapy stands for. Our motto is “Mastering Movement. Maximizing Performance.” I want AoPT to be known for excellence, individualized care, and genuinely caring about the people who walk through our doors. As we grow, my goal is to maintain that same level of personal care while creating a business that serves our local community and allows us to give back beyond the walls of our clinic.
Ultimately, I want people to know that physical therapy doesn’t have to be something you only do after surgery or when you’re seriously injured. Physical therapy is a great way to prevent injuries as well; we call this pre-hab. It can also be a resource that helps you understand your body, address problems early, improve how you move, and continue doing the things you love for as long as possible.
