Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Wright.
Hi Jordan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Photography has always been a part of my life, even before I realized it would become my career. Growing up, my mother was the person who always had a camera in her hand. She believed in preserving memories because moments come and go, but photographs allow us to relive them for generations.
When I was diagnosed with cancer as a child, those photographs became even more meaningful. My family documented milestones, victories, and everyday moments that might have otherwise been forgotten. Looking back, I realize those images told my story during a time when words couldn’t.
That experience sparked something in me. In high school, I joined the yearbook staff, and I continued that passion in college, where I studied Graphic Design and Interpersonal Communications. Photography allowed me to combine creativity with storytelling in a way that felt natural.
My career truly began when a friend asked me to photograph his wedding. While I wasn’t formally trained in wedding photography, I trusted my eye, my creativity, and my ability to connect with people. That one opportunity changed everything.
In 2019, I founded Wrightwork Photography, LLC, and I’ve been incredibly grateful for the journey ever since. Today, I have the privilege of photographing everything from weddings and maternity sessions to families, seniors, corporate branding, and conferences. Every client has a unique story, and it’s an honor to preserve those moments through my lens.
Looking back, it’s amazing to see how something that started with my mother’s love for documenting memories grew into a career that allows me to tell other people’s stories. I don’t take that responsibility lightly, and I’m thankful every day that I get to do what I love.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many entrepreneurs, my journey has come with its share of challenges. Building a business from the ground up means wearing every hat—photographer, editor, marketer, accountant, and customer service representative. There have been late nights editing after working a full-time job, weekends spent behind the camera, and moments where I questioned myself along the way.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that photography is about much more than taking beautiful pictures—it’s about serving people and preserving their stories. Every challenge has made me a better photographer, business owner, and person. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the journey because it has led me to opportunities I never imagined, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Photography has given me the opportunity to tell so many different stories. One day I may be photographing a couple on their wedding day, and the next I’m capturing a corporate conference, a maternity session, or a family celebrating a new chapter in life. I love the variety because every person, every event, and every story is unique.
If there’s one thing I’m most proud of, it’s the relationships I’ve built along the way. Many of my clients come back to me for different milestones in their lives or refer their friends and family, and that means more to me than any award ever could. Knowing people trust me to preserve their most meaningful moments is something I never take for granted.
I believe what sets me apart is that I don’t just take photos—I build relationships. I take the time to understand each client’s personality, vision, and story so their images feel authentic and timeless. I’m also known for my attention to detail and for creating an experience where people feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely themselves in front of the camera. And yes, I’m a little dramatic—in the best way! I always tell my clients that during a session. When I capture an image that I know is special, you won’t have to wonder because my excitement says it all. I celebrate those moments right alongside my clients, and I think that energy helps create an experience that’s just as memorable as the photographs themselves. At the end of the day, I want my clients to look at their photographs years from now and remember exactly how that moment felt.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m always looking for ways to grow, both personally and professionally. I enjoy learning from books, online education, and other photographers whose work inspires me to think differently. One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that becoming a better photographer isn’t just about mastering the camera—it’s about becoming a better communicator, leader, and business owner.
Lately, I’ve also been reading books that focus on human behavior, leadership, and personal growth, including several by Robert Greene. Those books have challenged me to think more intentionally about relationships, decision-making, and understanding people—skills that are just as valuable behind the camera as they are in everyday life.
More than anything, I believe learning never stops. Whether it’s attending photography conferences, investing in education, reading, or simply learning from the people around me, I try to stay curious. Every experience teaches me something new, and I bring those lessons into both my work and my life.
