Life & Work with Kateryna Baranova of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kateryna Baranova.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my career in permanent makeup about 10 years ago, and over the years I have worked with thousands of clients, continuously refining both my technique and my understanding of natural beauty.

My professional journey has taken me through different countries and very different stages of life. After moving to the United States, I had to rebuild my career in a new market almost from the beginning. That experience pushed me to become even more focused on developing my own professional identity and approach.

Over time, I created my signature Nude Brows™ technique, which is based on enhancing the client’s natural features rather than creating an obviously “done” look. My goal has always been to create brows that look soft, balanced, and harmonious with the face.

One of the most important milestones in my career was winning the WULOP USA Championship in 2025. Today, I continue working with clients, developing my technique, sharing my professional experience, and participating in the permanent makeup industry as both an artist and a judge.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges in my career was having to rebuild my professional life more than once.

Moving to a new country meant starting again in a new market, building trust with new clients, adapting to a different business environment, and continuing to grow professionally while also adjusting to a new culture and language.

At the same time, those challenges pushed me to become more independent and intentional about my work. They helped me understand what truly defines me as an artist and encouraged me to develop my own approach rather than simply follow trends.

Looking back, the difficult periods became some of the most important stages of my professional growth. They taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of continuing to move forward even when the path is uncertain.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a permanent makeup artist with 10 years of experience and more than 6,000 procedures performed throughout my career. I specialize in natural-looking permanent makeup, with a particular focus on eyebrows.

My signature approach is Nude Brows™, a technique I developed around the idea that permanent makeup should enhance a person’s natural features rather than replace them. I work with the client’s natural hair growth, facial anatomy, and individual features to create brows that look soft, balanced, and personal to each face. I believe the best permanent makeup should age gracefully and never overpower the person wearing it.

One of the achievements I am most proud of is winning the WULOP USA Championship in 2025. I have also been invited to serve as a judge and speaker at WULOP USA 2026 in Miami, where I will demonstrate my Nude Brows™ approach live.

What sets my work apart is that I don’t believe in creating the same “perfect brow” for everyone. My goal is not to make permanent makeup the first thing you notice. I want people to notice the person first — and simply feel that everything looks naturally harmonious.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is not to rush. In permanent makeup, technical skill is important, but learning to truly see the face is just as important.

When I was starting out, I focused a lot on creating a beautiful result immediately after the procedure. With experience, I learned that the real quality of permanent makeup is revealed later — in how it heals, how naturally it ages, and how well it continues to fit the client’s face over time.

I would also tell new artists not to build their style by simply copying what is popular. Learn the fundamentals, study anatomy, observe natural hair growth, analyze your healed results, and gradually develop your own professional vision.

Trends change. A strong understanding of your craft stays with you.
