Meet Lora Jones of Golden Hour Salon WJ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lora Jones.

Hi Lora, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to own my own business. I dreamed of being my own boss and creating a life that gave me both financial freedom and the freedom to make my own schedule. I wanted to build something that was mine—something that would eventually allow me to work toward a place where I didn’t have to work every single day.
But when I started my business, I quickly realized that it would become about so much more than being my own boss.

I saw a need in my community for a hairstylist who genuinely put the client first. I wanted to create an experience where people felt heard, valued, and cared for—not like they were simply another appointment or another opportunity to make money. My goal has always been to focus on what my clients actually need and to do what is best for them, even when that means putting a relationship or their experience ahead of making a profit.

That mindset became the foundation of my business.

Owning a salon has given me the opportunity to connect with so many incredible people. My clients have become such an important part of my life. We have laughed together, grown together, celebrated together, and even cried together. They have trusted me with their hair, but more importantly, they have trusted me with pieces of their lives.

Over the years, I’ve realized that my clients are a huge part of the reason my business has become what it is today. Their support, loyalty, stories, and friendships have shaped this business in ways I never could have imagined when I first started.

And I know I couldn’t have built this business alone.

My salon manager, Sarah Harris, has played such an important role in its growth and success. She has contributed so much to the business and has been a valuable part of helping bring my vision to life. I’m incredibly grateful for everything she has done and continues to do.

When I look back at where I started, I’m proud of how far the business has come. What began as a dream of becoming my own boss turned into something much more meaningful—a place where I can serve my community, build genuine relationships, and make people feel cared for.

My business may have started with a dream of freedom, but it has grown because of people.

And at the end of the day, my clients, my team, and the relationships we’ve built are what make this business truly special

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to balance being a business owner with being the best partner and mom I can be.
Owning a business can easily become all-consuming. There is always something that needs my attention, whether it’s a client, an employee, scheduling, finances, or something unexpected that comes up. Learning how to step away from the business and prioritize my home life has been a challenge. I want my business to succeed, but I also want to be present for the people I love and make sure they get the best of me, too.

There have been times when I’ve had to remind myself that success isn’t just about how well my business is doing. It’s also about being there for my family, creating memories, and building a life that I actually have the freedom to enjoy.

I’ve had to learn to trust my team, delegate, set boundaries, and understand that I don’t have to do everything myself. That has been a huge part of my growth as a business owner.

It hasn’t always been easy, but those challenges have taught me a lot about balance, priorities, and what success really means to me. I started this business because I wanted freedom, and I’m constantly reminding myself that the ultimate goal is to build a business that supports the life I want, not a business that takes me away from it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Golden Hour Salon WJ is about so much more than getting your hair done. We’re about creating an experience where every client feels welcomed, valued, and genuinely cared for.
We offer a full range of hair services, along with waxing and nail services, so our clients can take care of multiple beauty needs in one place. But what truly sets us apart isn’t just what we offer, it’s how we make people feel while they’re here.

Our business has been built on relationships. We’ve created a space where clients feel comfortable being themselves, where they know they’ll be listened to, and where they can leave feeling not only beautiful, but also connected and cared for. We’ve laughed with our clients, cried with them, celebrated milestones with them, and watched so many of them grow through different seasons of life.

One of the things I’m most proud of is that our clients genuinely come back for us, not just for the service we provide. That speaks volumes about the environment and relationships we’ve worked so hard to create. Of course, we take pride in our work and strive to provide high-quality services, but the relationships we’ve built are at the heart of Golden Hour Salon WJ.

We want our clients to feel like they’re walking into more than just a salon. We want it to feel like a place where they belong.

That sense of connection is what we’ve built our brand on, and it’s what I’m most proud of. Golden Hour Salon WJ is a business built on people, relationships, and an experience that goes far beyond the chair.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Honestly, there probably isn’t much my clients don’t know about me! I’m pretty much an open book. I’ve always been very genuine and comfortable sharing my life with my clients, and I think that’s a big part of how I’ve been able to build such strong connections with them.
For me, being open and authentic creates a level of trust. My clients aren’t just sitting in my chair getting their hair done, they’re getting to know the real me, and I’m getting to know the real them. We talk about our families, our struggles, our successes, and everything in between.

I think that openness is one of the things that makes Golden Hour Salon WJ feel so personal. I’ve never wanted to be the person behind the business who feels distant or untouchable. I want my clients to know me, feel comfortable with me, and feel like they can truly be themselves around me.

So, if there’s anything surprising about me, it might just be that I really don’t keep much of myself hidden
