Meet Genia Woods of Mz Good Newz, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Genia Woods.

Hi Genia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My mother has always said I came into this world talking. As soon as I could hold a microphone, I was singing, writing songs, and finding ways to connect with people through communication. As I grew older, that passion evolved into creating my own video podcast and vlog before joining WDRB Media, where I started by paying for my own segment. Through consistency and authentic storytelling, the show grew so much that I was eventually given my own segment at no cost.

A friend later connected me with an opportunity at Livingstone College’s radio station, where I volunteered for two years before becoming a paid consultant, radio personality, programmer, interviewer, and marketing strategist.

Today, I’m known as Mz Good Newz, a media personality, television host, consultant, emcee, youth mentor, and community storyteller. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of founding the 4C Children’s Content Creators Camp, curating Salisbury’s first Family Fest in partnership with Communities In Schools of Rowan, and creating platforms that celebrate and strengthen our community. I’m also honored that my work has been recognized through multiple industry nominations, including four Queen City Award nominations for Best Radio Show (Live with Mz Good Newz) and a Carolina Video Music Awards nomination for Best Host of the Year.

More than any title or recognition, my mission is to use every platform I’ve been given to help people feel seen, heard, and valued. Also, one of my greater jobs is being a Mother. It’s my hope and job to exemplify living with, in and on purpose for my children Levi & G’Niya Mae. Mz Good Newz like being a Mother isn’t just my name, it’s my assignment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and honestly, some of my greatest challenges weren’t external they were internal. As my opportunities grew, I realized that becoming a better communicator first required becoming a better steward of the gift I’d been entrusted with. That meant doing the self-work: growing in self-awareness, learning to lead with wisdom instead of emotion, embracing constructive feedback, setting healthy boundaries, and understanding that not every opportunity is meant for me.

I’ve also learned that purpose comes with responsibility. Building trust in the community requires consistency, integrity, and a willingness to keep learning. Every season has stretched me; not just professionally, but personally. Those moments have shaped me into a better leader, mentor, and communicator.

Today, I don’t measure success by the size of the platform but by the impact of the people I serve. I’m still growing, still learning, and I believe that’s what makes the journey so meaningful. Every challenge has refined not only my craft, but my character and that has become the foundation of everything I do as Mz Good Newz.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Mz Good Newz is more than a media brand, it’s a platform for purpose. Everything I create is designed to inform, inspire, and connect people while shining a light on stories, organizations, and individuals making a positive impact.

Through radio, television, live events, community partnerships, youth initiatives, and digital media, I help people and organizations amplify their message in authentic and meaningful ways. Whether I’m hosting an event, interviewing community leaders, producing awareness campaigns, consulting on media strategy, or mentoring the next generation through the 4C Children’s Content Creators Camp, my goal is always the same: to create opportunities that leave people better than I found them.

What sets me apart is that I don’t just show up to host an event or conduct an interview; I become invested in the people behind the story. I naturally connect ideas, organizations, and communities in ways that create lasting relationships and meaningful impact. My platform isn’t built around me; it’s built around elevating others.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Mz Good Newz has become synonymous with trust, authenticity, collaboration, and hope. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to create initiatives like the 4C Children’s Content Creators Camp, curate Salisbury’s first Family Fest in partnership with Communities In Schools of Rowan, launch community conversations that bring people together, and build relationships across education, business, nonprofit, and government sectors.

My vision is simple: when people think of Mz Good Newz, I want them to think of someone who doesn’t just communicate information but creates opportunities, builds bridges, and reminds people that there is always Good Newz worth sharing. Because communication is more than a microphone; it’s how you make people feel long after the conversation ends.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I believe the media industry over the next 5–10 years will be less about who has the biggest platform and more about who has the greatest impact. Research and industry trends continue to show that audiences are placing a higher value on authenticity, trust, and meaningful relationships than polished production alone. As AI-generated content becomes more common, the ability to build genuine human connection and credibility will become even more valuable.

I also believe the future of media belongs to communicators who can connect across multiple platforms while creating real experiences within their communities. The most successful creators won’t simply produce content instead they’ll build trust, educate, collaborate, and create spaces where people feel seen and heard. Industry leaders are already seeing creators expand beyond social media into live events, education, community building, and long-term brand partnerships.

That’s why I’ve invested in initiatives like the 4C Children’s Content Creators Camp. I don’t just want to prepare young people to create content; I want to prepare them to become ethical storytellers, responsible communicators, and leaders who understand that influence is a privilege, not just a metric.

My hope is that Mz Good Newz continues to grow into a trusted media and community platform that informs, inspires, and creates opportunities. Long after the cameras are off, I want the impact of the work to continue through stronger communities, empowered voices, and the next generation of communicators.
