Community Highlights: Meet Ashley Massengill of Head Turners Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Massengill.

Hi Ashley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Right out of hair school I decided to go to booth rent not commission like they tell you to. I had a drive everything they told me in hair school I challenged. Just my nature I guess. I built my client base in 2 years and was happy. An opportunity came to me to start my own salon and again I just jumped on it without thinking. Here we are 17 years later.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had to move locations. Start over with staff. Learn how to manage people and more than most just be a decent human being to people and it really comes back x10. Having kids while doing all of this being a mom a business woman and a friend.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Head Turners Salon?
Hairdresser and wedding business owner

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My mom telling me I can’t please everyone when I got turned down for jobs.
My friends encouraging me to keep going and listening to me rant.
The building owner when Covid came and he reduced my rent while the salon was closed down for 9 weeks bc we could not work.
