Rising Stars: Meet Garrett Osburn of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrett Osburn.

Hi Garrett, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Osburn Acres really started with one jar of Pepper Jelly. At the time, I was in the restaurant business and created the jelly one night to accompany a grilled grouper feature. It was simply about making something that would bring the dish to life, but the response was incredible. People loved it, started asking for more, and that one recipe planted the seed for what Osburn Acres would eventually become.

From there, we just kept creating—always focusing on bold flavors, quality ingredients, and products we were genuinely proud to put our name on. What started as something made for one restaurant dish has grown into an entire line of specialty foods, but our approach really hasn’t changed. We want to make food that brings people together, makes something ordinary taste a little more special, and above all, is **Just Plain Good.**

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been obstacles along the way. Sometimes they’re big, and sometimes they’re as simple as finally finding the perfect label or jar—only to have that jar discontinued and have to start the search all over again. Then there are the bigger challenges that come with trying to grow: knocking on doors, putting yourself and your products out there, and hearing “no” more times than you’d like.

But you can’t let those moments define where you’re going. Every challenge forces you to adapt, get a little more creative, and keep moving forward. We’ve learned that a “no” doesn’t necessarily mean never—it might just mean not yet. Building Osburn Acres has taught us to stay persistent, believe in what we’re creating, and never let a setback become the reason we stop.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Osburn Acres, we create small-batch specialty foods with big, unexpected flavors—from the Pepper Jelly that started it all to our jellies, sauces, vinaigrettes, and seasonings. We’re known for taking familiar flavors and giving them a creative twist while staying focused on quality ingredients and products that are genuinely useful in the kitchen. What I’m most proud of is that we’ve grown without losing the heart of why we started. We’re not trying to be like everyone else on the shelf—we want to create products that make people stop, taste, and remember us. At the end of the day, everything we make has to live up to one simple standard: **Just Plain Good.**

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
One of the things we’ve really grown to love about Lexington is the small-town feel and the way the community genuinely supports local businesses. There’s a sense here that people want to see their neighbors and small businesses succeed, and that means a lot to us.

As far as dislikes, having only moved here about three years ago, I’m not sure we’ve been here long enough to have a fair list of them yet! If anything, we’d love to see the continued growth and revitalization of downtown, with even more locally owned shops, restaurants, and reasons for people to spend time there. Lexington has a lot of character, and we’re excited to see where the community goes from here.
