Meet Jennifer Ball of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Ball.

Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into the event industry happened almost by accident. During my senior year at UNCG, I changed my degree, took one Event Management class, and was immediately hooked. The full-circle moment? I later returned to teach that exact class—and continued teaching future hospitality and event professionals for more than a decade.

After graduation, I spent 10 years as the Event Site Manager at Pine Lake Pavilion in Mebane, overseeing sales, planning, and coordination. That experience ultimately gave me the foundation to launch **Knot Your Average Events 14 years ago**, combining my passion for creating memorable experiences with a commitment to doing things a little differently.

Travel was part of our company from the beginning, but as that side of the business continued to grow, we launched our sister company, **Knot Your Average Travel**, three years ago. Today, we specialize in weddings and events throughout North Carolina and beyond, while helping couples, families, and groups experience the Caribbean through destination weddings, honeymoons, romantic escapes, and unforgettable vacations.

More than 25 years after that first Event Management class, I’m fortunate to have built a career that combines two things I genuinely love—**creating meaningful celebrations and helping people experience the world.**

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! The road has been anything but smooth. Our industry is constantly evolving, yet there are very few set standards, which means learning to adapt has been essential to longevity.

Over the years, I’ve navigated the impact of 9/11, a recession, COVID and the pandemic, worldwide travel concerns, and dramatic increases in wedding costs that have almost made traditional weddings a luxury for many couples. Each challenge has forced us to become more creative, flexible, and intentional about how we serve our clients.

Interestingly, those changes have also created new opportunities. As couples rethink what celebrating looks like, destination weddings, intimate celebrations, honeymoons, and experience-based travel have continued to grow—which is a huge reason Knot Your Average Travel is thriving today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in creating experiences, not just events or vacations. At Knot Your Average Events, we thrive on telling each couple’s love story through thoughtful design and creating a guest experience that feels personal from beginning to end. Whether it’s a wedding, milestone birthday, or special celebration, we want people to walk away knowing exactly who and why they were there to celebrate.

With Knot Your Average Travel, I’m honored every time someone trusts us with their most meaningful memories—whether it’s a destination wedding, honeymoon, bucket-list adventure, family vacation, or simply some much-needed time on a beach to restore a little work-life balance.

What sets us apart is the creativity, experience, and personalization we bring to everything we do. I love when clients trust the process and give me the freedom to take their vision beyond what they imagined. There is no greater compliment than hearing, “WOW—you gave me exactly what I wanted, but didn’t even know I needed. It’s like you spoke to my soul.”

That’s what I’m most proud of: creating experiences that truly feel like the people we’re celebrating.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I definitely never take full credit for our success. Events are a team sport, and we are fortunate to work alongside an incredible community of talented vendors who help bring our clients’ visions to life.

But my greatest credit goes to the Knot Your Average Events team. They are the people behind the scenes creating the moments—the ones problem-solving, anticipating needs, calming nerves, moving mountains, and doing whatever it takes to make our clients and their guests feel taken care of.

I may have started the company, but our team is the heart behind so much of what we do, and I truly believe I have one of the absolute best teams I could ever ask for. I’m incredibly proud of the standard of service, dedication, and heart they bring to every celebration.
