Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Brown.
Hi Martha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Struggled with life goals and direction, not sure what to do and if I did have an idea what to do, no idea how to get there. Family never stopped trying to guide and push but I was not a willing recipient at times. Fast forward from late teens to mid 20’s find the goals and direction was up to me so went back to school and worked hard at school, a job and internship where I fell madly involve with the construction and furniture design industry. Move along almost 10 years and started my own firm having relocated back to the area my husband and I first met, now 9 years in business, with multiple employees, a thriving company, design showroom, beyond proud of the success this team has done.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A rough road was happening when I was younger teaching me that focus and strength and support is all you need to get through almost anything. We definitely scratched our heads a few times wondering what pill we decided to swallow and why we left lucrative jobs and careers to go on our own without a game plan or business plan established.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about TAB Designs?
We are a high end interior design and construction firm and showroom. We have four employees that focus on design build creating architectural plans for new builds and remodels along with custom kitchen/bath cabinetry designs. Another aspect of our overall team is the interior designers that focus on furniture plans and selections along with window treatments, bedding, art, all of the finishing details for our projects. Our showroom is a one-stop-shop essentially to make all construction and interior selections with samples from exterior stone to bed linens, tile and cabinetry. All materials we custom design for each client, order and delivery to all job sites. Our focus is to heal each project unique to each homeowner, to do this we try to learn who they and what they like, not what magazines or websites are telling them they like, we encourage people to not follow trends but follow what they love and makes them happy. We are strong in handling the professional aspect of these project from the design elements to the implementation.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
My concern is everyone loosing their identities and designers thinking they are designing when actually just mimicking work that has already been done. Even vendors images no longer showcase the unique styles and materials they have but are all showing the same thing. My hope for the future of the industry is to have individualism again and people to trust in themselves and love what they want to love in the design industry. With that maybe a dip back into traditional styles will return with a mix of open floor plans traditional spaces, like a keeping room or parlor space and colors to be rich and textural, but always remaining classic and timeless.
