Pooja, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi All, My artistic journey began in the **Bay Area, California**, where I started exploring a simple question: whenever I saw an ordinary object, what else could it become? A discarded bottle could turn into décor, a flower could be preserved forever in resin, and an overlooked corner of a home could become a space with personality. That curiosity gradually grew into **The Creative Pankh**.
“Pankh” means **wings** in Hindi, symbolizing freedom, imagination, and the courage to explore beyond familiar boundaries. The name is also inspired by the beauty of a **Moor Pankh—a peacock feather**. Its complex patterns appear to hold thousands of shades, shifting between blue, green, turquoise, gold, bronze, and violet as the light changes. Many colors coexist within one harmonious design, yet each shade retains its own identity.
That is how I see my creative journey. Like the colors within a peacock feather, resin art, decoupage, mixed media, texture art, 3D flowers, jewelry, upcycled décor, and functional artwork and many more; come together as different expressions of one creative identity. The Creative Pankh represents my ability to absorb inspiration from countless experiences and transform it into something uniquely beautiful.
My journey eventually brought me from California to **Raleigh, North Carolina**, and I truly love the vibe here. Raleigh offers a wonderful combination of warmth, creativity, community, nature, and opportunity. I have found people here to be welcoming and genuinely interested in handmade art and meaningful experiences. It feels like the perfect place for The Creative Pankh to spread its wings into its next chapter.
My work includes pressed-flower keepsakes, 3D resin flowers, geode-inspired clocks and coasters, textured wall art, altered bottles, ocean scenes, miniature landscapes, and personalized pieces. I enjoy imagining an idea, but the execution is my favorite part. That is where creativity meets patience, problem-solving, and occasionally a serious negotiation with resin! I love studying how colors blend, how textures interact, and how every detail can help an art form reach its full creative potential.
Teaching has become an equally meaningful part of my journey. Through art workshops and summer camps, I have taught children, teenagers, and adults. Children create fearlessly, teenagers bring bold perspectives, and adults often begin with “I’m not creative” and leave proudly holding something they cannot wait to display. Helping someone discover their own creative wings is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
My knowledge of color, composition, and styling has also allowed me to serve as an informal art consultant within my community and among friends and family. I help people select artwork, create personalized gifts, and decorate special spaces in their homes, patios, and event settings.
My greatest strengths are patience, grit, resourcefulness, and my unmistakable **“Let me do it” attitude**. If I do not know how to create something, I research, experiment, and keep trying until I find a way. I have completed several last-minute and short-turnaround projects that were warmly received by clients and customers. Apparently, deadlines do not frighten my creativity—they simply give it extra caffeine!
Today, I see myself as a multidisciplinary artist, educator, consultant, and lifelong learner. The Creative Pankh is more than a name: it represents transformation, thousands of shades of possibility, and the confidence to keep spreading my wings—from the Bay Area to Raleigh and wherever creativity takes me next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road? Only after several layers of resin—and a lot of sanding! : ) Like my Younger one says – NEVER!!!
Resin has taught me patience in very creative ways. Bubbles arrive uninvited, colors occasionally change their minds, and some ambitious experiments become extremely decorative paperweights. Each imperfect result, however, has made me a more skilled and resourceful artist.
My greatest balancing act has been building The Creative Pankh while raising two wonderfully active boys. Between school, activities, appointments, and family responsibilities, uninterrupted studio time can feel like a limited-edition art supply. Many ideas begin during school drop-offs, and many projects are completed after the house becomes quiet.
My husband’s support has been essential. He encourages my ideas, helps manage our hectic schedules, and gives me the time and confidence to keep growing. The Creative Pankh may be my artistic vision, but its journey has truly been a family effort.
Moving from the Bay Area to Raleigh also meant rebuilding my creative network from the ground up. I had to introduce my work to a new community, establish relationships, and find fresh opportunities. Raleigh’s welcoming and creative energy made that challenge feel like the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
Teaching children, teenagers, and adults has brought additional learning experiences. Every group has different abilities, expectations, and attention spans. A workshop must be engaging, achievable, safe, and flexible enough to encourage individual expression. Teaching has trained me to prepare carefully while staying ready to improvise—because art supplies and children are both very good at ignoring the original plan!
Short-turnaround client projects have also tested me. There have been moments when time was limited, materials were unavailable, or an idea required a technique I had not attempted before. Those situations strengthened my Patience, Grit, resourcefulness and my signature “Let me do it” attitude. Instead of focusing on what was missing, I learned to work with what was available and find another path to the desired result.
The road has not always been smooth, but every bubble, deadline, relocation, and packed family schedule has made me more resilient. The challenges did not clip my wings; with my family’s support, they taught me how to fly higher.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multidisciplinary artist specialized in Resin art, 3D resin flowers, texture art, decoupage, mixed media, and specializing in Lippan art, mandala art, upcycled décor, and many other functional artwork. My Signature Art work ranges from jewelry, keepsakes, coasters, trays to statement clocks, ocean-inspired scenes, miniature landscapes, altered bottles, and textured home décor.
I am especially drawn to color, layering, and dimensional details. I enjoy combining pigments, metallic accents, flowers, natural elements, mirrors, textures, and everyday materials to create pieces that feel distinctive and personal. I also enjoy exploring Indian heritage and culturally rooted art forms—particularly Lippan and mandala art—and presenting them with a contemporary touch while respecting their traditional character.
My creative practice, which I share through my Instagram handle, TheCreativePankh, is rooted in the belief that even an ordinary object can be given new purpose, beauty, and meaning.
I also conduct workshops and summer camps for children, teenagers, and adults. These experiences allow me to make art approachable while giving each participant the freedom to develop an individual style. I am always proud when someone who initially doubts their creativity leaves with confidence in what they have made.
What sets me apart is the attention I give to both the idea and its execution. I am patient, detail-oriented, and comfortable adapting when materials, timelines, or creative directions change. My understanding of color, composition, and styling also allows me to guide people in selecting personalized artwork and decorating meaningful spaces in their homes, patios, or events.
I am most proud that my work has grown from personal experimentation into custom creations, community workshops, and opportunities to help others experience the joy of making something uniquely their own.
What were you like growing up?
I was born and raised in New Delhi, India, and I have always been the curious one in my family—the person most likely to ask, “What if we try it this way?”
My qualifications are in **Company Law and Accounting**, and professionally, I worked in the United States as a **tax consultant for many years**. On paper, my world was built around numbers, regulations, deadlines, and precision. But art and craft were always what genuinely inspired and excited me.
In an interesting way, my professional and creative sides complement each other. Tax consulting strengthened my patience, attention to detail, discipline, and problem-solving abilities—all qualities that are equally valuable when working with resin, intricate patterns, or layered artwork. The main difference is that spreadsheets rarely allow me to add flowers, texture, or gold leaf!
Growing up in Delhi exposed me to an exciting mix of traditional culture and modern ideas. The colors, festivals, patterns, handcrafted details, and Indian heritage art forms around me naturally influenced the way I see creativity.
I have never been afraid to try something unfamiliar. When an idea interests me, I want to understand it, experiment with it, and find my own way of expressing it. If the first attempt does not work, my curiosity usually becomes even stronger.
My family still knows that when I say, “I have an idea,” the dining table may soon disappear beneath paint, resin, flowers, and craft supplies! That same curiosity continues to drive me to learn new techniques, explore different art forms, and find creative possibilities in ordinary materials.
