Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Burgess.
Hi Nicole, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a creative entrepreneur with books, films, documentaries, plays, and a podcast that I am currently heralding. I started writing stories on my grandmothers typewriter when I was eight years old. I wrote short stories and mini plays that my cousin and I would act out, dressed in my grandmothers clothes. When I was ten, I started performing in school plays and summer plays which truly shaped my love for performing. In high school, I acted in and choreographed our high school musicals, and was captain of our dance team. Outside of school I was on a competition cheerleading and dance team, and was a competitive fencer, competing against college aged fencers in the area.
In college, I directed a short French play called La Cantratrice Chauvre and was a webTV host for local businesses in the Triangle. I also wrote my first novel and short story, both of which were inspired by real life events, including challenges and obstacles I had overcome at the time. After college, I worked professionally as a actor in commercials, tv and independent films.
In 2024 I launched my publishing company, NBM Publishing and earlier this year (2026) I released my third book, The Awakened Soul’s Field Manual. I also launched the media house, BlackBird Productions, which produces a podcast called Life & Art Podcast, films, documentaries and plays.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been rewarding. I would say that for the first part of my life, the challenges came more from navigating friendships and family dynamics rather than industry demands. Those times were difficult because I moved and changed states and schools often, which made it difficult to form long standing friendships. I think having strong friendships while growing up is important because it helps to establish healthy communication, however having to build and rebuild relationships actually taught me a valuable lesson, which was to learn to trust my own inner guidance more than seeking approval from others.
This lesson proved incredibly valuable as I grew older, especially moving into complicated industries such as a the film and television industry and the publishing industry. The difficulties that arose from auditioning for roles or trying to secure a publishing deal were painful, because it made me question my worth more often than I could count. However, because I had already established a strong inner compass and strength of will, I was never deterred from my goals.
Having your own internal compass is invaluable in a world that rewards stagnancy, complacency and conformity. Through the difficulties, I’ve learned how to push through obstacles and trust that what I’m meant to create will come to fruition.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think what sets me and my work apart from others is that I take a spiritual approach to what I create. For a long time, I was trying to participate in industries that create from a place of material focus. The work I create is spiritual. The books I write focus on the spiritual path or the inward journey. The short stories I write focus on truth and hidden worlds. The podcast I produce focuses on the authentic nature of creativity and tapping into your childlike essence, which is akin to being close to God. Everything I create is dedicated to revealing, guiding or illustrating the spiritual nature of humanity and the world around us.
I’ve been like this my entire life, but I’ve finally found my voice and the resilience to push it out into the world. Whether I’m dancing, designing jewelry, producing a play, writing a novel or screenplay, or performing on the stage, everything I do comes from a higher state of being, a heavenly place if you will. And I would love to inspire others to create from this place as well. I think the world would be a better place if everyone connected back with their inner child and lived life from that state of mind.
