Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Fruitti Pebbles.
Hi DJ Fruitti, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In college, I had a few friends who were DJs, and I was always fascinated by it. I loved watching how they could control the energy of a room through music, but at the time, DJing was something I admired more than something I actually saw myself doing.
I didn’t really start DJing until I became a teacher. One of the teachers I worked with was also a DJ, and I was constantly asking him questions about what he was doing, the equipment, and how everything worked. Eventually, instead of just answering all my questions, he started letting me DJ. Once I actually got behind the decks, I fell in love with it.
From there, I started taking it more seriously, practicing, developing my own style, and finding opportunities to play. Over the years, DJing has grown from something I was curious about into a huge part of who I am. Now, as DJ Fruitti Pebbles, I’ve been able to play different events and venues, become a resident DJ at Club Era, and even start creating my own events.
What I love most is still the same thing that fascinated me in college—being able to use music to bring people together and completely change the energy of a room.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The hardest part has really been getting someone to listen to you and give you a chance. When you’re trying to establish yourself as a DJ, you hear a lot of “no’s,” but sometimes what’s even harder is hearing nothing at all. You can reach out to venues, promoters, and different events and never get a response.
That can be discouraging, especially when you know how passionate you are and how much work you’re putting into your craft. I had to learn not to take every “no” or unanswered message personally. I just kept reaching out, kept practicing, kept showing up, and kept putting myself in spaces where people could eventually see what I could do.
Those obstacles actually taught me persistence. Every opportunity I have now means a little more because I remember what it felt like when I was just trying to get somebody to listen.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an open-format DJ, so I don’t like putting myself into one musical box. I play everything from house, hip-hop, and R&B to reggae, pop, and remixes. One of my biggest strengths is reading the room. I pay attention to the crowd and the energy and try to give people what they need in that moment while still bringing my own personality to every set.
I think I’m known for bringing a fun, high-energy vibe and blending genres in ways people may not expect. For me, DJing is more than just playing good songs—it’s about creating an experience and taking the crowd on a journey.
I’m most proud of my growth. I went from just being fascinated by DJing and wanting someone to give me an opportunity to now being confident in what I bring to the table and creating opportunities for myself.
What sets me apart is my versatility and my ability to connect with different crowds. I’m not afraid to switch it up, experiment, or go somewhere unexpected musically. At the end of the day, I want people to leave my set remembering how they felt when I was behind the decks.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is riding around with my mom in her red Chrysler 300, blasting music, singing at the top of our lungs, and just vibing together. My mom has since passed, so those memories mean even more to me now. When I think back on it, I truly believe I got my love for music from her. Music was something we shared without even realizing how important those moments would become to me later in life. Now, every time I’m behind the decks, I feel like a little piece of that love for music that she gave me is still with me.
