Today we’d like to introduce you to Momoplush.
Hi Momoplush, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a digital and traditional artist turned Vtuber. This all began from the desire to return to creating art, after being discourage to stop creating by my college department head.
You may have or may not have heard the term “Vtuber”, but if you have not, I am a content creator that does not show her face on camera. I utilize a variety of programs that allow me to have an animated avatar that is controlled by my facial expressions. I opted to no longer show my face due to unsavory and unjust reporting on streaming platforms by strangers.
When I chose to become a Vtuber, it allowed me an avenue to indulge in my creative and push the limits of my imagination. It became a way to showcase myself unapologetically as the person I am without inhibitions. Vtubing has allowed me the opportunity to release cover songs, sell my art, and have community members subscribe that get monthly physical prints and stickers from me. The possibilities have been endless and I cannot wait for what the future holds in this space.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It sure has not, specially when I used to show my face online. People had very nasty things to say about my skin, my weight, etc. People truly feel empowered to say the most hurtful things when behind a keyboard. I had t find a way to continue my creative journey without this hate.
In addition to overcoming my self doubt as an artist, this was by far the hardest insecurity to overcome, because I had to force myself to be vulnerable with my art.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My day job is in Enterprise IT, so I help protect the data for banks, hospitals, and well known corporations in my 9 to 5. Creating art, singing and streaming are my after work passions.
I believe I am most know in the Vtubing community for my advocacy of Black, Hispanic and POC individuals in a niche streaming space. There are far more Caucasian and Asian Vtubers and I have made it my mission to be loud and proud, while uplifting others who not onl;y look like me, but share my same desire of inclusivity.
Vtubing has helped me accomplish my dream to be a singer, I still cannot believe I have songs on Spotify and Apple Music.
What’s next?
I recently debuted a new model and Y2K aesthetic that took up close to a year to accomplish, and so my focus is to take what I have created and push it to be more interactive for my viewers. For example, I want viewers to be able to trigger the claw machine in the background image that I use. Or to turn the TV channel that is also there. I want to create a space that someone can immerse themselves in and feel like they are there with me.
In addition to the above I am working on making more cover songs to release, which I am very excited for.
