Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamelle Flowers.
Hi Jamelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got start in acting through an award winning author named Omar Tyree. Shout out to him! We met at an event and started discussing the different ventures and projects we were working on. I was working on music and he was looking to transition into screenwriting. He was working on his first film called “Monologues” and asked me to be in it. It was on Amazon Prime and the rest is history. From there I was introduced to an a female writer and director, Felicia Rivers out of Charleston, SC and she gave me several film opportunities which really unlocked a passion for film acting & I’m forever grateful. My brother, Kent James, another dope writer and director saw a gift and talent in me for acting and put me in several of his films. My journey into acting was unconventional but I’ve been blessed to work with some really incredibly talented writers and directors who saw something in me and took a chance on me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Nothing worth anything of value ever is. Long day, early morning, late nights on set. You’ve got to be willing to pay your dues. We live in a world now where everyone wants everything to be instant. Instant fame, instant wealth, instant notoriety but it doesn’t work like that. You can go viral or get 15 minutes of fame but that’s not sustainable. If you really want something of value, you have to be willing to make the sacrifices and do the hard work and that road is never easy or smooth but it’s always worth it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an actor & musician. I’ve done several films and series. “Treachery”, “Black and Blue Tears”, “Sinful”, “9 Seconds”, “Love Bomb”, “Letter From E”, “Kismet”. I’m proud of all the films I’ve been apart of. Each one has a life of its own and being part them has taught me something different about the art of acting. I’m currently working on a new feature film that I’m really excited about so be on the lookout for that.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Im not sure if it helps me do my best in life but im a HUGE fan of True Crime stories! I’m always listening to a true crime podcast, documentary or something. I think it gives us a deeper look into the psyche of human beings and how depraved people can be. My dad got me hooked on true crime so I blame him.
