Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Hoffman.
Hi Andy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t come from money, quite the opposite. I grew up in a family with no real financial acumen, and money was tight. I was scared to go to college and take on student loans when I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. What I actually wanted was to play drums in a band and move to Nashville, but nobody I knew wanted to make that move with me. So instead, I joined the Coast Guard.
I got a $4,000 signing bonus that paid out once I reached my first unit, and I blew through it fast. That was the wake-up call. Watching that money disappear with nothing to show for it made me realize I had no idea what I was doing with money, and I needed to fix that. So I walked into a bookstore, picked up a book on personal finance, and that turned into an obsession that’s lasted over twenty years.
When I got out of the Coast Guard, I waited tables for a while, then moved into sales, and that’s what got my foot in the door at a financial firm. I learned the industry from the ground up, with no finance background and no connections to lean on.
From there I became a financial advisor, twice, at two different firms. I also spent time recruiting for LPL, and eventually became Chief Experience Officer at a boutique RIA.
The realization that led to Rogue Finance wasn’t watching other people struggle. It was watching myself struggle. I was making good money, especially once commissions and bonuses came into play, and I still had no idea where it was going every month. Every budgeting tool I tried broke down against how I actually got paid. The manual upkeep of tracking every dollar was exhausting, and eventually I stumbled into a way to automate the whole thing instead of searching for the perfect budget.
So in August 2022 I started Rogue Finance. The idea was simple: build a system that moves your money automatically, so you’re not white-knuckling your way through every paycheck. No budgeting, no spreadsheets to maintain. Just a structure that does the work for you.
Four years later we’ve helped over 375 clients, built out a full coaching team, and the method has grown into something bigger than I expected when I started it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not even close to smooth! The first version of Rogue Finance was basically just me., and started out as just a course, and the sales weren’t coming fast enough, and I thought I was about to go back to corporate America. Someone jumped in my DMs on Instagram, which led to me hiring him to teach me how to build a coaching practice. That single shift opened my eyes and showed me the path to profitability and also the cheat code that I can basically hire a coach to teach me the ropes. I’ve gone through eight coaching programs since 2022, and I think that’s been a huge part of my success. However, at the beginning, I was doing the sales calls, the coaching calls, and trying to build the system all at the same time. There was no team to lean on if I got something wrong, just me and Google it felt like.
Building out a coaching team was harder than I expected. It’s one thing for me to know the method in my head. It’s a completely different thing to teach someone else to run it the same way I do, consistently, with clients I’m not sitting in the room with. I had to actually break the whole thing down into something teachable and repeatable instead of relying on instinct.
The tech side was its own headache. Wiring together the systems that run client onboarding, payments, and communication took a lot of trial and error, and a lot of things breaking in ways that only showed up once real clients were moving through them.
And honestly, letting go has been one of the hardest parts. I built this thing doing every sales call, (sometimes up to 30 in one week) and every client conversation myself, and stepping back from that to actually build a company instead of just running myself into the ground has been a slow, uncomfortable process. I’m still in the middle of it, and at the time of this writing, I’m grateful to say that I’ve had team members tell me to block every other Saturday off my calendar and basically force me to stop working after 6:30, which has been a huge blessing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Rogue Finance is a financial coaching business built around one core idea: your money needs a system. We work with six-figure earners, the kind of people who are making great money and still feel broke every month, and we break that cycle in 90 days without ever asking them to build or maintain a budget.
What we specialize in is automation. We build what we call an Automatic Money Flow system, using two checking accounts and a high-yield savings account at a separate institution, so cash moves where it needs to go without anyone having to think about it or white-knuckle their way through the month. Once someone gets one month ahead, we help them put that cash flow to work across four goals: paying down debt, building emergency savings, funding specific savings buckets, and investing.
What sets us apart is that we’re not a budgeting app and we’re not a course you buy and never open. It’s coaching, real people working with real coaches, backed by a system that does the heavy lifting instead of relying on someone’s willpower every single day. We’ve helped over 375 clients so far, and the average client we work with is earning north of $200,000 a year, so this isn’t a beginner’s guide to money. It’s built for people whose income is complicated enough that generic advice doesn’t cut it.
What I’m proudest of is that this isn’t theoretical. I built this system for myself first, because I needed it, and everything we teach clients is the same structure I actually use. It’s not a brand built on a marketing angle. It’s built on something that worked.
If there’s one thing I want people to take away, it’s that this isn’t about restriction. It’s not about cutting your spending or living on a spreadsheet. It’s about building a system so good that you don’t have to think about money every day, and it just works in the background while you live your life.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think relentless optimism with a strong work ethic has been absolutely mission-critical for me. Frankly, it took me going out of my own to unlock this level of work ethic, that and other mentors and people speaking into my life. For a season, it felt like the only time I was not working was if I had scheduled something in my calendar. I think seeing the vision and finding the right people that share my vision and have an incredibly strong work ethic based around outcomes.
