Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelly Shi.
Hi Shelly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Beauty crew mobile was officially born in 2016, when Lindsay and I noticed the need for onsite beauty services in the busy Wilmington wedding scene. It was a natural and necessary progression that really took off to meet the demands of a modern approach for wedding day beauty services.
Lindsay and I shared several clients who were getting married and asked us to be apart of their wedding day by doing their hair and makeup. Of course, we replied with a resounding yes :)! We quickly realized how much we loved being onsite and celebrating their special day with them!
10 years later, we are now a team of 20 talented makeup artists and hair stylists who are still obsessed with the beauty business and love making the bride and her bridal party feel and look their best!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Probably one of the biggest challenges with Beauty Crew Mobile was breaking into the wedding industry and gaining clients.
We spent lots of time sending emails and our portfolio to venues, wedding planners, photographers. etc. Attending networking events and collaborating with other vendors on styled shoots for content and pictures.
Building those relationships with venues, planners, and other wedding vendors has been a big part of our growth and we appreciate each and every one of our relationships. They have become “friendors”, not just wedding vendors :).
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We also have a brick and mortar salon and spa called Beauty and Bloom. We offer hair services, facial services, waxing and makeup. We are located in the South Front District of Wilmington and absolutely love our neighborhood and sweet space!
What were you like growing up?
Grew up on a big farm in a small town in Ohio with my parents, 3 sisters and LOTS of farm animals.
Moved here to attend UNCW and get out of those freezing Ohio winters.
Received my English degree from UNCW- give me books over tv and movies any day!
Went to esthetics school in 2006 and still take clients 3 days a week performing facials, waxing and makeup.
Wedding weekends are my fav- absolutely love sharing a bride’s special day with them and their loved ones!
