Conversations with Blanca Ortiz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blanca Ortiz.

Hi Blanca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I found Reiki in 2014, after the local wellness center’s group meditation teacher told me it was something you had to experience to understand. Well, he was right, and that one session put me on the most purposeful path of my life.

The real turning point started some years before that. I’d just graduated UNC-Charlotte with degrees in marketing and Spanish and was lucky to land a role in corporate marketing. Having worked since before legally able to be on the books, working was nothing new, but it was suffocating. Within a few years, I was diagnosed with IBS (on top of hypothyroidism I already took medicine for), broke my foot, and finally hobbled away with only a severance and my savings to lean on. Food became my way back to restoring my own health. I could not get enough information from articles, webinars, courses, and documentaries. I ended up enrolling in a Master’s program in Holistic Nutrition and diving into what all the research suggested – meditation. When I hit a plateau practicing at home, I ventured out to a free weekly meditation class that led me to Reiki and spiritual healing.

I could stop taking my medication and day-by-day invested in both my mental and physical health. Little did I know how deeply emotional and spiritual health were intertwined in this until receiving Reiki myself and having a profoundly personal experience. It was obvious that I had A LOT more work to do, so being budget-minded, I signed up for Reiki 1 to work on myself regularly. As animals and people had incredible mini-sessions with me, it felt selfish to keep this healing power a secret and started to go public. Amidst this I had a very healthy pregnancy, natural delivery and thanks to Reiki have the energy to raise my wild son solo every day.

Today, I’m a Usui Reiki Master Teacher and Certified Holistic Health Coach. Blooming Balance is where I bring Reiki, holistic nutrition, and non-toxic lifestyle coaching together — especially for empaths, highly sensitive people, and moms who are ready to feel like themselves again. I don’t teach this from a textbook. I rebuilt my own body and mind with it first.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth is probably not the word most entrepreneurs would use, but especially not this spiritual practitioner. In a world focused on control and money, serving as a guide for people to reclaim their natural healing power is rarely prioritized. Especially not in the Bible belt, even in the 2020s. So, how I explain Reiki is never scripted and always different depending on who is asking. How so? Because Reiki is both spiritual and scientific, quantum level, so how I explain it depends entirely on who’s in front of me. I never had any idea about energy before Reiki, who would?

Then there is the matter of building a professional practice that is a common dilemma for most Reiki practitioners. Unless combined with other more popular modalities or another means of income, it is not easy to find a place to work with Reiki clients or students. Massage therapists, acupuncturists, and chiropractors make the real money, with Reiki still seen as more of a complementary therapy. So, I bounced around for a bit, practicing wherever I could – even outside deck of a yoga studio. Fortunately, I’ve been blessed with a pretty steady working relationship at the same center since my first day’s practicing. It happened thanks to a friend — after receiving Reiki from me for a few months, she shared her room and schedule with me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Usui Reiki Master Teacher and Certified Holistic Health Coach, and Blooming Balance is where it all lives under one roof: individual Reiki sessions (in-person in Cornelius, or via Distance Reiki to anywhere around the world), I primarily offer Reiki certification trainings from Level 1 through Master Teacher, and two structured coaching programs. Next Level Nutrition is a 6-week reset on why what you’re eating matters on a cellular level. Higher Vibe Health is a 12-week deep dive into toxins, stress, and rebuilding from the inside out.

What I’m known for is picking up on unspoken energy with loving guidance and genuine care. A stranger can feel like they have a helpful shoulder to lean on almost immediately. There is a trust that happens so no “belief” in Reiki is required. Everybody walks into each session with a blank slate, or rather as a blank canvas. I meet you where you are, not where anyone thinks or says you should be.

So, what clients keep coming back isn’t just one thing: migraine or stress relief, healthier pregnancies, better sleep, smoother digestion, relationship trouble, healing from traumatic experiences, grief or loss of a loved one. That range is the point. Working on more than one layer at a time produces a wider spread of results than a single-modality practice tends to, and almost everyone points to the same shift underneath it all: feeling lighter, genuinely seen and cared about again. Students going through Reiki training with me talk about it less like a class and more like a life skill they didn’t know they needed.

I specialize in working with high-achieving, high-anxiety, empaths: entrepreneurs, caregivers, executives, and other practitioners like all kinds of therapists who spend all day being there for others. People who tend to put others before themselves often leave little time to take care of themselves. They are angels to work with because once they replenish their own energy, showing up for others is all the more possible and pleasant. If you’ve ever ended a session with someone else and felt more drained than they did, or gotten overwhelmed without knowing where it even started, that’s exactly who this is for.

What I’m proudest of isn’t one session or client story. It’s the honor of training the next wave of Reiki practitioners myself, passing along something that rebuilt my own life, and blesses everyone it touches.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is people taking back their innate power instead of relinquishing control to outside “authorities.” Every one of us has a healing capacity, with our internal systems naturally aiming to restore homeostatic balance. We can each choose healthier, more aligned lives once we take responsibility.

That’s really what my mission for Blooming Balance comes down to: restoring people’s trust in their own healing abilities, their connections, and their potential. I watched that shift happen in myself once I stopped waiting for someone else to fix me, and I want that same thing for the people I work with and train. If someone leaves a session or a certification feeling more supported or trusting themselves a little more than when they walked in, that’s the whole point.
