Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristal Ortiz.
Hi Cristal, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, I am Cristal Ortiz, a Duke Alum, graduated from Duke in Spring 2025 with a Neuroscience Bachelor of Science degree and a Chemistry minor. I have an Associate’s in Arts from Sampson Community College (2021) and graduated from Clinton High School in 2021.
I first started creating content (taking posting and my Instagram more seriously) during 2021, my first year of college, and have continued since for the past 5 years. Ever since then, I have worked with different brands and carried out different projects.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth run; there have been struggles in finding the ‘perfect’ balance with other aspects of life and responsibilities. However, having a strong social support system helps immensely.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As mentioned before, I share parts of my life as a content creator; however, I still try to remain reserved when it comes to sharing my professional and personal life. The version I have on my Instagram is just snippets of my life. I want to say that my family and friends are some individuals I am the most proud of and beyond thankful for having them in my life.
I have dedicated part of my life to service for the community, and I believe that can be a distinct experience that might set me apart, yet the act of carrying out service is a universal experience.
I think the fact that it is universal does not really set me apart from others, but there is a real beauty to that. How wonderful is it that we are all here in this world to make an impact, no matter how small or big an impact; we are here to serve.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories was the Christmas parties we had in elementary school. There is just an extra magical touch to those specific memories.
