Today we’d like to introduce you to Tobias Jacobs AKA SuperSonic.
Hi Tobias, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with roller skating began when I was very young, and it has remained a major part of my life ever since. What started as something fun became a passion, a form of self-expression, and a community that helped shape who I am today. Over the years, I developed my own skating style and began performing under the name Supersonic.
Music is also a big part of my story. I have been DJing since I was 13 years old under the name DJ YoungSoul. Although the name reflects my love for soulful music, I play all genres and enjoy creating an atmosphere where everyone can have a good time. DJing and skating have both allowed me to connect with people, entertain crowds, and express different sides of my personality.
Through skating, I have been blessed with opportunities to travel, perform at major events, and represent the skating community that has supported me throughout my life. One of the biggest moments of my journey was being selected as a skater for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final halftime production alongside Madonna. That experience showed me just how far dedication and staying true to myself could take me.
Today, I continue to grow as a roller-skating performer and DJ while attending UNCG and pursuing new opportunities. I am grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way, and I hope my journey encourages others to stay committed to what they love. Skating and DJing are more than things I do; they are both important parts of who I am.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been balancing school, skating, DJing, and my personal life while still giving my best to everything I do. Since I began DJing at only 13 years old, I also had to prove that I was serious about my craft and capable of entertaining different types of crowds despite my age.
There have been times when opportunities did not happen as quickly as I hoped, but I always remained positive and patient because I knew that something beautiful and deserving would eventually come from all the time and effort I put in. I never allowed delays or setbacks to make me lose faith in myself or what I was working toward. I also did not let certain criticism try to change who I am, my life, my goals, or my dreams.
Those experiences taught me that everything happens at the right time. Every obstacle has made me stronger, more disciplined, and more appreciative of the opportunities I receive today. My journey has shown me that staying consistent, trusting the process, and maintaining a positive attitude can lead to outcomes greater than you originally imagined.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I turn motion and music into a language of my own. As the professional roller-skating performer Supersonic and the DJ known as DJ YoungSoul, I have spent nearly my entire life on skates and have been DJing since I was 13. I play every genre of music, but my greatest strength is reading the room—understanding what people need in the moment and shaping an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, energized, and ready to connect.
As Supersonic, I bring together explosive energy, creativity, personality, and a skating style that is unmistakably mine. Skating gives me a way to communicate without words, transforming movement into emotion and turning every performance into a shared experience. What sets me apart is the way I blend skating, music, entertainment, and authenticity into one complete artistic expression. I do not perform as someone I am not; I let my individuality lead, allowing every glide, spin, beat, and interaction to tell my story.
I am proud of my accomplishments with Red Bull, Athletes of the Rink, and the FIFA World Cup, and I am especially honored to have been selected to perform as a skater in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final halftime production alongside Madonna. These milestones reflect what dedication, patience, and belief in myself can create. Whether I am moving across the floor or guiding a crowd through music, I strive to leave people feeling inspired, connected, and more confident in their own individuality. My artistry is not only about performance it is about creating moments that stay with people long after the music stops and the wheels slow down.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next five to ten years, I see roller skating continuing to grow beyond the rink and becoming an even greater part of mainstream entertainment, fashion, sports, music, and culture. Social media has introduced skating to new audiences, while major live productions have shown that skaters belong on some of the world’s biggest stages. I believe we will see more skaters featured in concerts, films, commercials, sporting events, brand collaborations, and international productions. DJing will also continue to evolve as technology changes how music is discovered and performed, but I believe the human connection will remain the most important part of the craft. Technology can organize and play music, but it cannot replace a DJ’s ability to read the room, understand the crowd, and create an experience that feels personal. As both Supersonic and DJ YoungSoul, I want to help bring these two worlds together by continuing to perform on larger stages, working with major artists and brands, and helping roller-skating culture receive the recognition it deserves. I also hope to inspire the next generation of skaters and DJs to embrace their individuality and understand that their creativity can take them beyond anything they originally imagined.
