Meet Ashley Hutchinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Hutchinson.

Hi Ashley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was a five years old at Disney when it first happened. I pulled on my Uncle’s arm and wailed, “Uncle Bob! I will just die if I don’t get it!”. There in the gift shop window was the most perfect purple overpriced Mickey Mouse 110 film camera, and I just had to have it! Of course, my uncle caved, and that camera went on to spawn a lifelong love of photography. Over the years, my style and subjects changed, but my passion never left. In my late 20’s I enrolled in Randolph College as a Commercial Photography student and graduated a few years later. While attending the program, I discovered my passion for set design and prop styling and knew this is where my career would lead me. I interned with a prop company and eventually went out on my own.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being self-employed takes a lot of discipline and a strong work ethic. I put 100% into every project I work on and have an amazingly talented team -who work equally as hard- making my job a whole lot smoother.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a set designer and prop stylist. As a passionate artist, I am always looking to deeply connect with the client’s vision and bring their imagery to life. With a degree in commercial photography, I have an eye for detail and complex layering. I have worked in commercials, music videos, film, stills, and tv. I balance my boundless creativity and love for details with an awareness of budgets and schedules.

What makes you happy?
If I am not on a film set, you will most likely find me getting my hands dirty in my garden, collecting four leaf clovers, or scouring thrift shops for my next treasure. Gardening is my love, and I recently became certified as a Monarch Waystation. My plants make me so happy, and the wildlife they attract brings me so much joy.
