Life & Work with Lisa Mickle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Mickle.

Hi Lisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always enjoyed doing hair as a little girl and I always said I would have my own salon one day. My story didn’t start that way, though. After high school, I went to Fayetteville State University and received a degree in Accounting. After graduating, I couldn’t find a job that wouldn’t hire with no experience. So I enroll in Empire cosmetology school because I was always that neighborhood stylist that enjoyed doing everyone’s hair back home and in school. After finishing cosmetology school, I then was offered a position at a local bank. I worked there for three years and was laid off. After that, I decided to pursue my original dream of doing hair full time and here I am 8 years later, doing what I enjoy doing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, but it definitely was worth the struggles. Starting out deciding I was going to be an entrepreneur was scary. Coming from corporate America and knowing in my mind was a guaranteed check every two weeks gave me a sense of security. Stepping out and doing it myself took discipline and faith. Starting out business was slow some days and I wonder how I would make ends meet. Going through this stage definitely built character.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Natural Hair Specialist. I specialized in healthy hair, natural curls & twists. I am know for transforming women’s hair into their beautiful natural curls. I am most proud of being a being a business that survived the pandemic and growth of the business. What sets me apart from other businesses is my bubbly personality, I care out my customers and I always strive to give them the best experience while in my salon.
