Community Highlights: Meet Andrea DeLucia of Life Future Wealth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea DeLucia.

Hi Andrea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thank you for having me.

Do you know that 80% of men will die while they are married and  80% of women will die being single?

As women, we are the caregivers to our families, spiritual consolers, vacation planners, accountants, and personal chefs. The list goes on and on. But if we are so busy taking care of others, who will be taking care of us? We need to be more aware of our financial and emotional future but there are not many places that provide a holistic approach to retirement planning for women. One that explains things in easy terms and in ways that make sense to us. I noticed this lack of assistance in the community of women, and I decided to open my practice.

Advising women was important to me because I felt the hardships caused by a lack of financial education, and I wanted to help as many women avoid that as possible. My story begins when I married my High School sweetheart. We both became professionals and IBM relocated us from New York City to Raleigh, North Carolina.

After a rewarding career, I decided to become a stay-at-home mom so that I could take care of our new baby girl. This is when unexpected changes began to happen.

One night in our living room my husband decided to end our marriage of over ten years with no further explanation than “I don’t want to be with you anymore”.

I thought he was joking. Until I went to the grocery store to buy milk for our daughter and my debit card was declined. I called the bank, and they told me I was no longer an authorized user In the account. I call the other bank and it was the same thing. I rushed home and I was confronted with a stack of documents for me to sign. Including a QDRO distribution.

A Business Degree was of no use. I could not understand those documents, my head was spinning. Nothing was making sense.

I called Fidelity, they told me they couldn’t help me and advised me to call a lawyer. I retained a lawyer. But family lawyers don’t deal with QDROs.I was going in circles until I found a man that halfway explained what these documents were and prepared something for me to sign. He had no sympathy, no care in the world.

You know that feeling when someone just wants your money? I remembered crying outside that parking lot. After praying and crying some more I made myself a promise.

At that moment, I decided that I would never find myself in this situation again. I endeavored on a mission to learn anything and everything about real finances. Particularly about Retirement planning. I found the best mentors and studied to obtain my licenses.

Since that time, I have been blessed to be able to educate the public about retirement planning through my writing as a Forbes contributor. I have been a co-host of a financial talk radio show and I have made several TV appearances. My mission is to be a guide for the next Andrea. For the next woman who doesn’t know who to trust, who perhaps is transitioning to a new chapter in her life and needs reassurance that her money or achievements are aligned with her fulfillment and her purpose.

My divorce was a major setback. But, it led to one of my major strengths in life. A moment that forced me to pivot to serve others with more significance and at a higher level.

We’ve been impressed with Life Future Wealth, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I help women who are 50+ plan an exit strategy for their retirement. With roadside assistance to take care of them if the unexpected happens.

The unexpected is painful. It leaves you disoriented. Not knowing who to trust. Or which new road to take. Especially when we have to think of dollar signs.

But you don’t have to go through all of that alone if you have an expert in retirement planning. Someone who understands your story and knows how to bulletproof your portfolio against the unexpected.

When the opportunity came. I founded Life Future Wealth as a holistic retirement boutique practice for women.

Perhaps you have been told to save, save, and save. But how are you going to take this money out? From which accounts should you start? And how are you supposed to minimize taxes on your fund? What if you get sick, need to take care of someone, go through a divorce, or suffer the death of a loved one? If you can’t take care of yourself one day, who is going to change your diapers? How are you going to handle your finances through all of this?

Well, we can help you find peace of mind by providing you with options and education so you can move on faster and become financially stronger.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I have something very much in comment with your readers. I am a woman.

In life, we want to be understood. We want to belong and make a difference. I love to listen to women’s stories. Their internal “WHY?”  and I work hard to complement their achievements with their fulfillments.

We have put together an amazing network of experts to assist us in providing world-class service, I called them my TRIBE. The tribe includes Estate Attorneys, Divorce Attorneys, CPA’s and Life Coaches, all of us working cohesively. This is something that sets us apart from other firms.

Think about this: When your foot hurts, would you go to the cardiologist or the podiatrist. The podiatrist, of course. Why? Because this is their specialty. You know that this Doctor is going to have the latest, most up-to-date information, tailored specifically to you. That’s her area of expertise.

It’s the same thing with finances. You can’t expect the strategies that helped you save for retirement in your early years to be the same as your Retirement exit strategy. It takes different thinking. You are moving from the accumulation era to a  period of preservation and distribution.

The process actually starts before you unplug the alarm clock, 5 to 10 years before retirement.

If you’re feeling uneasy about retirement but want to start planning, then I suggest that you please reach out to a Retirement expert in your area. One that makes you feel comfortable. One that makes you feel heard and understood.

Why Now? Because time is the most precious commodity, we have. And let’s be honest. We can be good procrastinators. If not now, then when?

The longer you wait, the more uncertainty you will build inside of you and in your retirement accounts. The market can drop at any moment, as it did in 2008 when it fell 56%!

What if you were ready to retire in December of 2008 and suddenly half your money is gone. All your hard work and sacrifices–gone! Would you have been able to retire? Would you be truly happy and satisfied knowing that you only have half of the money to fund your retirement lifestyle?

The goal here is for you to master:

• What a retirement exit plan should look like for a woman, regardless of if you are married, single, widow or divorced.
• How to organize your finances in a way that makes sense to you.
• How to prepare if the unexpected happens while you are on the road to retirement. (Road-side assistance)
• Communicate with your family about your plans and bring them along so they can learn as well.

My tribe and I at Life Future Wealth want to give you the tools you need to help make you mentally and financially stronger and to start you on your new path.
