Hidden Gems: Meet Denetria Holt of HouseOfDee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denetria Holt.

Hi Denetria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I honestly never thought about owning or becoming a business owner. I had been in the healthcare field for years and had just recently received my associate’s degree in healthcare management. But in 2012, God saw fit to allow me to start my first online store. At that time, my focus was just women’s accessories. I did very well until an apartment fire changed all of that. I had to start over and with starting over, I put my business on hold. That would be several years later, after the fire and after a lot of challenges. I was even homeless at one point but remained diligent on starting my business. Once I was stable, I started HouseOfDee in 2016 and even though it had begun, I still didn’t know if it was still something I wanted to do. So I tried to walk away from it, sounds weird but I couldn’t walk away. So now here we are. Five years later and I’m truly amazed at the growth in my business. I’m honestly happy that I didn’t give up! I love my customers and meeting and networking with great people.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Far from smooth. But worth every bit of growth and wisdom that comes from challenges. I think the hardest challenge for me was dealing with homelessness and still working on my business. People thought I was crazy. I’ve never experienced being without a home or being without my children. Toughest two years of my life, but it made me better. I appreciate life so much more.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in everyday wear for the fashionable, beautiful feminine woman. I love feminine, dainty chic pieces and I just want to provide great customer care and lovely products. I take my time with every piece and I love when my customers get that feeling when they purchase from me. I’m a huge fan of making people feel good and HouseOfDee does just that. My most proud moment would be this interview. Never thought I would be doing one so soon! So thank you!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Keeping God first! Being authentic and original… Never giving up! It’s okay to take a break! Be patient and be kind to everyone!
