Check Out Sherrill Jacobson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrill Jacobson.

Hi Sherrill, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began providing pet care for friends and neighbors and found my passion for dogs brought me overwhelming joy. I researched starting a full-time pet care business and quickly hired some other women to help me. I then subleased space in a grooming facility and started a doggie daycare in addition to the in/home Petcare Services I provided this quickly led to pet limo services wherein we were delivering dogs to and from doggie daycare or for grooming services. Shortly thereafter, I leased a larger space and hired a groomer to work for me directly. The business began to grow exponentially. We offered in-home pet care and we were a fully licensed boarding facility too. My team grew to sixteen part-time employees during our busy season and holidays. I now employ three groomers who work seven days a week in addition to my pet care employees.

When first starting my business, I began to help grassroots rescues save dogs from county shelters. It became an extreme passion for me and in April of 2019, I took over a non-profit 501c3. I am now the director of Dog Warriors Rescue in addition to owning Paws Pet Concierge Inc. this business is run by volunteers who foster, transport, and help at adoption events.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have always been struggles. It was challenging to find quality groomers and employees who were honest and reliable. Working with the town to obtain permits, etc., takes stamina and wherewithal to accomplish set goals. With three moves in two different towns, following guidelines and regulations of what the town and state required to operate a pet business has been extremely difficult. Obtaining reputable contractors to help with build-outs has always been challenging too. Starting and maintaining a business often takes a toll on family responsibilities and the heartbreak with dog rescue is a daily heartache.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I offer a full refund to any client that is not fully happy with any of our services. I have an amazing team who loves dogs and cats and I get rave reviews daily on how happy a client is with our service provided. The love and care that my rescue dogs receive once in a foster or adoptive home brings me incredible joy in knowing we saved a life and that animal will never be abandoned again.

What makes you happy?
Happy and loyal clients who share us with their friends and neighbors and increases our business. My ambitious team members who take great pride in their jobs. Volunteers who help me save lives by transporting from shelters or vets and fosters and adopters who make a difference in a dog’s life.
